They needed to hire the largest scam consultancy to figure out they need rolling bins? Why not task a city engineer or planner to figure that one out? I guess NYC can't line pockets if they use the experts they already employ.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 32 points 4 months ago

i think in the bottom they say the final design was done by local talent shrug-outta-hecks

mckinsey figured out that if you put bags of trash inside special containers with wheels, it might do something idk, man, you paid me only 1 million

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 months ago

this problem could be solved by a middle school kid, not even joking.

[–] Feinsteins_Ghost@hexbear.net 36 points 4 months ago (1 children)

That’s it?

1.6 million to figure out they’re gonna use 96 gallon two wheeled totes that most municipal garbage programs in the US use already? Fuck. I’d have done the same thing for 500k. Two-thirds under budget and still got the solution. That’s a real win for the taxpayers right there.

[–] WashedAnus@hexbear.net 38 points 4 months ago (1 children)

How do we start HexBear consulting? Like, this is just a scam.

Are they gonna pay McKinsey another five mil to come up with "uhh, dumpsters?" for buildings with more than 9 units? Rolling out dumpsters just in time for rising sea levels to float them away.

FUCK

This is what happens when your recommendations are written by fresh graduates of the Kissinger School of War Crimes and Atrocities steeped in the pseudoscience of liberal ideology

neolibs privatizing sanitation infrastructure:

We’re cleaning up NYC, everyone needs to buys these bins now under our new law.

frothingfash

Adams Sanitation Mandate!!!

And you know this is just gonna be weaponized against the unhoused and impoverished.

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 25 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Correction: apartment buildings with more than ten tenants don’t have to buy them, they can continue to throw giants mounds of garbage at the curb. Which is heeeee-larious because these bins are supposedly about preventing rats on the sidewalk, as the giant apartment building trash mounds do way more to attract rats than 1-2 family homes’ garbage.

giant apartment building trash mounds

Wait, what? Is this real? NYC just throws their trash on the side of the road like savages? Actually for real?

I think I threw up in my mouth a little when I opened that image. Dear god what the fuck

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago

America is the greatest country in the world!

[–] Barx@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Usually they throw their bags right on the sidewalk. Sometimes there's a little short fenced area near the curb to contain the bags.

NYC is smelly

Wait until you hear about Moving Day. For over 300 years, everyone in New York moved on the same day. This should not be a real place.

[–] sexywheat@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

Yeah it was the same in Quebec up until very recently. Apparently it was also customary for tenants to have to buy/move their own stoves and fridges too.

[–] alexandra_kollontai@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

We should do that more under socialism

[–] AssortedBiscuits@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

Garbage city

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

What lol i thought there'd be some other mandate for big units! How often is trash collection in nyc? Those containers can fill up fast.

[–] WashedAnus@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago

No no no, they need to spend more money on consultants to tell them "Uhh, Idk, make the big buildings buy dumpsters. And then you put like a fork attachment on the truck, just like every other city in this country. Have any of you even been to another city?"

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 22 points 4 months ago (1 children)

A criminal misuse of public funds everyone involved should be shot

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 20 points 4 months ago

The backbone of this city’s recycling program rolls around recycling on the sidewalks in shopping carts 24/7/365 and it took the city 1.6 million bucks to figure out it’s easier to move trash on wheels?

[–] Black_Mald_Futures@hexbear.net 15 points 4 months ago

1.6 million dollars to tell them to "just use a normal trash can but put a latch on it"

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 15 points 4 months ago

Literally could have bought existing bins and slapped weatherproof stickers on them

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 4 months ago

*but he could totally be more liberal than Biden if he replaced Biden *

[–] HexBeara@hexbear.net 14 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

... That's it? How are these people holding positions in office? How did the people hold on to their office before them? Woooo a trash can on wheels definitely a first for humanity woooo! Ffs...

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

New York is a police state ruled by bankers, grifters, and the mob. It’s essentially Vegas except the gambling is glorified as a career and affects billions of people instead of one guy and his family

[–] HexBeara@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yeah but no one in ... Idk 60 or 70 years could figure out to put trash in a bin with wheels on it? No one? And idk I'd imagine the mob could make money off of selling them these ingenious inventions since they usually have political ties and have ties to sanitation services as well (unless that's just a Hollywood/Soprano thing?)?

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Look we are still traumatized from 9/11. All the state’s funding goes into NYPD submarines and NYPD intelligence agencies. But we’ll show Osama why we don’t have free health care or wheeled trash cans

[–] HexBeara@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

By turning down the immediate capture of bin laden and then about 20 years later, 10 years after we've killed Osama in a different country, we leave all of our military equipment behind with our tail between our legs as Osama bin Ladens( rest in peace homie) military force takes over Afghanistan and becomes the new de facto government? YEHAAAW EAGLE SCREECH

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 13 points 4 months ago

Conservatives shit themselves over new york and california being run by stalinists but outside of red states, those two states are about as cartoonishly capitalist as you can get

[–] Meh@hexbear.net 10 points 4 months ago

I love that one half filled bag of trash completely chokes the garbage can due to the taper towards the bottom. Design!

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Lol.

How does New York only have one rat for every seven people?

[–] WashedAnus@hexbear.net 12 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] Frank@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

Bootyjudge robbing NYC of it's vital regional culture smdh.

The way that commissioner can lock in her Attack on Titan ass smile while making every other expression with the rest of her face is creeping me out scared

[–] moujikman@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago

Glad they'll overflow so I can still go rat spotting.

[–] lemmyseizethemeans@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 4 months ago

Mayo Pete in the Burroughs yo!

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)
