Seeing a thread get locked just for asking if it's okay to disagree with trans people's identities really rubbed me the wrong way. I don't want moderators pushing their agenda on to me. If I see something I don't like, I can block that user or community. It'd be nice to block entire instances, but I don't think we have that feature yet.

Does anyone know of any instances that don't have stringent rules that exist to push a narrative? I'm cool with some moderation, like for spam and illegal content.

That's not why it got locked. It got locked because of the type of comments that you don't see there anymore, as they kept coming and we removed all of them. They were name-calling and not saying very kind things to OP. We thought we don't need that, and as they had their question answered, I locked their post.

So it was protecting the OP there, not going crazy on censorship.

Well, with that you are also NOT welcome on Geddit.

The entire point of moderation is to keep horrible people from saying horrible things. Say things that communities find acceptable, or get on out of those communities.

I’m sure there are some other communities that will welcome your opinions, but you should really already know how unpopular that particular opinion is among the general population of the English-speaking world.

I know it's unpopular, but I want to find a community that doesn't censor its users for being unpopular or saying horrible things. I would rather censor those users myself if they say things I don't want to see.

Then you should head on over to 4chan.org, where you can be an obnoxious child to your heart's content.

The admin of this instance also is the admin of mastodon.world and the code of conduct (applies to all of ruud’s stuff) can be found here:

https://mastodon.world/about

Any person who is a user of this instance or participates in any community hosted on this instance is bound by those rules.

If you don’t like the rules, you are absolutely welcome to find an instance that you would prefer but remember, if you still choose to visit any community here, you gotta pay attention to the rules. If you don’t like that moderators can and will moderate, you might want to find some other place to hang out.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I don't get why that person asked and I don't get why you're asking. Just search for instances, read their moderation policies, and pick one?

This is why I am so excited about Federated communities. Go out there and explore. You had the skills to find and sign up for Lemmy, surely you can web search and read.

I'm new to the platform and wanted to discuss the possibilities with other users.

Take a look at the lemmy.world sidebar, click on the rules link there and find the following. There you go, that seems like it closee the discussion to me.

If you picked the wrong instance, you can pick one with rules you align with.

Okay, thanks for letting us know, I guess? Have fun and don't let the door hit you on the way out

[-] rivr@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

You can always avoid interaction within topics or with communities you know that will piss you. Its not that its mandatory to participate in every discussion, drop comment under every post

[-] exohuman@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Is it okay if I don’t agree with your identity @guyman? Who knows if you are a guy or a man? All we really know is you think someone’s identity is an opinion that can be dismissed.

[-] guyman@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

You can disagree with me about anything. If you're saying something I don't want to read, I can block you.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.
