It is good to have friends, is it not, Mr. Garibaldi? Even if maybe only for a little while?

[–] teft@startrek.website 25 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Now, I go to spread happiness to the rest of ~~the station~~ lemmy. It is a terrible responsibility but I have learned to live with it.

Mr. Garibaldi

I can’t help but hear this in his voice

[–] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago

Ah, Meestah Garibaldi!

[–] Zink@programming.dev 35 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I am 100% on board for B5 characters lying in wait to jump out among the trek memes.

[–] MajorHavoc@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah. Can we make this an official tradition?

[–] teft@startrek.website 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'll do my best to throw one in every now and then.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 4 points 1 year ago

AND SO IT BEGINS

[–] Dee@lemmings.world 20 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's from Babylon 5, for anybody coming to the comments and wasn't familiar with what show this is from.

[–] AngrilyEatingMuffins@kbin.social 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Every sci fi fan should watch it! Season one is a little rough but boy does it get good. Season four is arguably the best sci fi season ever.

[–] djmarcone@lemm.ee 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Bab5 is the best scifi tv show of all time. Some people would say that The Expanse is just as good or better, I don't know.

B5, DS9 and the expanse are all pretty much tied for me

[–] DharmaCurious@startrek.website 19 points 2 years ago (9 children)

M'star trek peeps, is the show worth watching? I've never seen it, and I've heard mixed reviews.

[–] teft@startrek.website 31 points 2 years ago (2 children)

100% worth it. With the caveat that the effects aren't good. The story and characters more than make up for it though.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Maya did what it could. The effects were amazing for a TV series at the time.

[–] djmarcone@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago

The cgi was done on Amigas IIRC

[–] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago

100%

S1 is rough, but it really picks up right out of the gate in S2. The last season is halfway to a different show, it's skippable. Crusader is fine, too; it's not great, but I don't regret watching it.

Oh my god yes. I’m surprised you’re not watching it now. There’s a good amount of 90s camp and cheese, but the bones are very, very solid.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's widely considered the most contiguous SciFi series out there. The director started with 5 years of scripts and changed very little during production, other than losing the main character between seasons 2 and 3, due to medical complications. I personally consider Bab 5 to be as good, if not better than both Firefly and Farscape.

[–] AngrilyEatingMuffins@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Between one and two. Even crazier, though - he knew actors sometimes left shows so he wrote in a “trapdoor” and replacement character so that he could sub out someone with a new character without losing a step.

[–] djmarcone@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

And it worked out super well too, arguably Sheridan was superb and having Sinclair become valen just works.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 11 points 2 years ago

Y E S

Londo my beloved

[–] M500@lemmy.ml 11 points 2 years ago

In the past year it was released in 4K. As others have said, the effects are not great, but growing up in that era, it felt a little nostalgic.

I was pretty hooked on it for a while. I got kinda burned out on the last season. It’s not that it wasn’t good, I just binged it too hard.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's cheesy and cheap and often very manichaean. Yet, it's very interesting and got me hooked to an extent that nothing on the Star Trek universe managed to.

Yeah it’s kind of like the spiritual successor to 90s trek with family guy humor sprinkled in. I did not watch season 3 yet, but I heard it was great!!

[–] AngrilyEatingMuffins@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I thought season three was the best so far

Much of season one is outright bad. The remaining seasons are really good.

[–] shiveyarbles@beehaw.org 18 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This is great, I lovev Star Wars

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 8 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

I, also, love Battlestar Galactica.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

But that's a different franchise. Battlestar Galactica is the one with the robots everyone calls "toasters" but they can only say "exterminate" and can't walk stairs except in the later seasons.

[–] comfortable_doug@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I, too, love Battlestar Galactica

I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar.

[–] agent_flounder@lemmy.one 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have a bad feeling about this

[–] lastjunkieonearth@lemdro.id 4 points 2 years ago

you always say that, you always say I have a bad feeling about this (drop)

[–] comfortable_doug@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Isn't that from the Star Trek song everybody hates?

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 3 points 2 years ago

It's not that bad I actually liked it

[–] quinkin@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You moon-faced assassin of joy

[–] teft@startrek.website 12 points 2 years ago

Poor Vir. Londo treats him so poorly.

[–] b9chomps@beehaw.org 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I actually watched it for the first time recently and quite enjoyed it. Lots of interesting characters and story. Like already mentioned the CGI is really bad. I wish they stuck with models rather than early 3D effects. Season 5 and the end of 4 feel a bit underwhelming after the main threat is resolved sometime in the middle of the penultimate season.

[–] M500@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That’s exactly where I stopped watching. They had this major plot line resolved and then it just stuck around with nothing to do.

[–] legios@aussie.zone 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

As an FYI, they didn't expect to get renewed for S5 so the end of S4 was originally supposed to be the series finale. Then they had to come up with a new one

[–] M500@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Thanks! That makes total sense.

[–] djmarcone@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago

Psi Corp and techno mage are fantastic creations in that universe.

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

With holo decks everything is in universe. This could just be a holodrama.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Slap a portable holo emitter on Mr. Garibaldi post haste!
