Everything to do with the USA's own Imperial Backyard. From hispanics to the originary peoples of the americas to the diasporas, South America to Central America, to the Caribbean to North America (yes, we're also there).

Post memes, art, articles, questions, anything you'd like as long as it's about Latin America. Try to tag your posts with the language used, check the tags used above for reference (and don't forget to put some lime and salt to it).

Here's a handy resource to understand some of the many, many colloquialisms we like to use across the region.

"But what about that latin american kid I've met in college who said that all the left has ever done in latin america has been bad?"

Negro Matapacos (“Cop-Killer Blackie”) was a famous stray dog from thestreets of Santiago who joined student protests across the city from 2010, and in particular during the 2011 movement for free education.

he was a stray dog from the streets of Santiago, and began joining student demonstrations in 2010. The following year, one of the biggest social movements since the fall of the military dictatorship began, fighting for free education and against neoliberal reforms to the education system.

Negro Matapacos was then seen regularly at every demonstration, defying tear gas and water cannons and always barking at or attacking only the riot police, and never any students or rioters. He subsequently continued to appear sporadically at future demonstrations, and hung out on university campuses, becoming beloved to student and radical movements as a symbol of resistance to violent authority.

His last days were spent resting with people who took him in, with a crowdfunded veterinarian.

Some people who knew him sent us some of their memories of him, telling us how he defied tear gas and water cannons, and only ever barked at or attacked police officers, and never students or rioters.

After his death, his legacy lives on in songs, street murals, an award-winning documentary and in the memories of all those who knew him. He was a good boy.

Whoever decided that I needed to be forced to touch grass for 24 hours could have just turned off the internet. They did not need to cut off the power and make me cold and damp.

Idk why but I have a fascination with sports jerseys of great athletes from teams they're not remembered for and only played a tiny bit of their careers with.

Ken Griffey Jr with the White Sox, Albert Pujols with the Dodgers, Adrian Beltré with the Red Sox, Manny Ramirez with the Rays, Wayne Gretzky with the Blues, Shaq with the Celtics, Richard Sherman with the Buccaneers, etc

I dunno, they feel like a little window into alternate histories that were sort of actual history.

I just think they're neat 🥔bois-presentation

Just saw an idiot on Twitter saying that the “ussr invading Afghanistan was the single greatest threat to world peace in history.” Really? With USA and the uk and all their shit just sitting right there?

glad to see my decision to only ever play pauper in MTG is panning out perfectly. your format is overrun with power-crept nerdbait designed to sell boxes and promo sets? couldn't be me, I'm playing with sleeved up draft chaff. we've got 20+ viable decks and they're all fun to play. the most expensive cards are $5 commons from 20 years ago. even better that I play on MTGO, I'm going 5-0 in leagues with decks that cost $2 total. this shit ain't nothing to me, man.

what's that? your banlist updates are skewed because they won't ban the format-warping mythics from the nerdbait crossover packs still sold in shops, for fear of hurting sales? damn, sucks to suck, couldn't ever possibly be me.

Apparently only like 5% of ADHD people who attend college graduation compared to 35-45% of general pop. Now, those general pop numbers are appalling, it should be 100%, but FIVE PERCENT? Dear sweet... uh... Minerva? I forget who is in charge of education. Probably one of the muses. But either way, if that number is accurate, I haven't found a hard source, but if that's accurate it lines up perfectly with my experience of receiving fuck all in the way of meaningful accomodations for ADHD. I did graduate and it was grueling and miserable, year after year of stress that lead to prolonged periods of severe depression, countless withdrawals, fails, and incompletes. I made it by the absolute skin of my teeth, just barely pulling the C GPA I needed to make it out.

Decided to play the demo for The Last Train because it looks like an interesting game, RTS + train. First plot point is "ebil gommies killed a miller and burned down the mill for no reason other than they're ebil"...

Really disappointing because it otherwise does seem like a pretty good game sadness

Also the characters have ideologies and nationalist is described as "Values freedom, personal responsibility, and independence. Supports decisions that make the nation stronger."

My own perception of my "self" feels inconsistent enough to me that I don't even feel like I can conceptualize a fully coherent self anymore. Yet while experiencing these inconsistent states, more often than not they're still undifferentiated enough to be impossible to clearly discern. This is unsurprisingly rather distressing. Is this just what happens when you think about your self too hard? tetsuo-brainrot

Wii U gang here again -

A 480p screen on the gamepad is weird. A 256x192 system won't scale that well, but weirdlt both 240p and 160p games scale perfectly to it. So of course NES, SNES and Mega Drive look great, but... perfect fullscreen 3× scale of GBA games? And the Wii U can do GBA through several different emulators? I am so playing Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis on this.

you can tell that the west is infested with latent fascism because when benito mussolini showed up in the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny, nobody said "we should all kill this guy". no, they teamed up with him to fight chuck norris. which, fair, that guy sucks, but it's mussolini. you shoulda prioritized him at least.
