From my experience I think if you don't enjoy building stuff in it you won't get into it. Honestly felt somewhere between incredibly samey and a step back from BotW for me.
As soon as I entered the Depths, my Inner Dad Energy was unlocked as I thought: "Í̵͓ ̸̨̑n̶̺̈́ë̴̻ḛ̷̀d̷̦̔ ̴̖̃t̴̥͠o̶̜̓ ̵̝́b̵̖͋u̸͖͛i̴̤̅l̸̡̏d̴̰̅ ̵̝̑a̷̞͛ ̷̪̀d̵͔̈́e̸̜̓ĉ̵̫k̵̓͜" except the deck was a tank that can go up hills. The impulse only became more intense as I realized that the best weapons were Depths-exclusive, and only spawned in certain areas.
Start exlporing the Depths. Lots of neat stuff down there.
I bounced off of it hard for that reason, did the Rito and Goron dungeons but the Zora dungeon was so incredibly bad that I quit the game then and there and still haven't gone back
TOTK definitely felt like what BOTW should have been I guess, but after already having played that I really didnt have much interest in totk
I get why people enjoy it but fuck do I ever miss proper Zelda games, the whole "sandbox" thing isnt for me
How long ago did you play BOTW? I needed a long time between those two games to hold any interest in TOTK
