Police did not identify the discount supermarket chain. However, they said the cocaine was found at stores in several cities across the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Employees at a discount supermarket chain in Germany found 95 kilograms (210 pounds) of cocaine stashed inside crates of bananas, police announced on Monday.

The drugs are reported to have a street value of around €7 million ($7.8 million).

Police did not name the supermarket in question, but said the drugs turned up in several cities around the western state of North-Rhine Westphalia.

Somewhere in Europe, there is a very disappointed drug dealer staring at a number of boxes that contain nothing but delicious, healthful South American bananas.

"I don't care if you have to eat every banana you are going to find the drugs"

Banana bread is good though

[-] Erasmus@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

Just imagine cocaine bread though. 🤔

That's a good point. Plus, it's summer, and you can't do summer without a banana split here and there.

[-] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 month ago

Is... is it summer? we are about to have fucking october.

Seems crazy that official summer lasted until just now, wow. Didn't realize that

I still wish we would adjust our calender system by a few months, so the seasons align better with each quarter.

[-] robocall@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I've never had a banana split... Now I wonder if I've ever really done summer.

[-] Halcyon@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 month ago

You're okay if you have done watermelons.

[-] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 4 points 1 month ago

Asset managers gonna be snorting pure whole bananas to stay awake.

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 23 points 1 month ago

I'm guessing the store employees originally uncovered 100 kgs of cocaine

[-] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

If I found money I'd take it. But wtf would I even do with all that cocaine? I have no idea who I would sell that much to without getting arrested or killed. I would just turn it in and ask for a reward

[-] DasAlbatross@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

But wtf would I even do with all that cocaine?

People seem to super enjoy doing the cocaine itself!

[-] triptrapper@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

There was a reddit post years ago, I think from /u/borax, with guidance on this scenario. Essentially he recommended splitting the cocaine up into Mason jars and burying them. As long as you were patient and didn't tell anyone, you could have a lifetime supply of coke to sell or share with your friends.

[-] Badeendje@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Something like this happened at a fruit distributor in the Netherlands and they called the cops. Arrests where made but due to a fuckup during trial a full list of the fruit companies employees where left in a file that went to the defence. One lawyer refused to remove it and several years of threats and attacks on the fruit distributors personell followed.
