We're drowning in red tape. The level of regulation stifles innovation. It stifles creativity," Maloney said in reference to the federal government's overall handling of industry.
An incredibly bleak quote, oh my god…

Weird how Russian state owned industry doesn't have this problem.
Canada wants to go back to how its military behaved before the Geneva convention.
Didn't CSIS put out a report how they see people rising up against the government once they realize how fucked they are economically as one of the major risks going forward? I bet that's what all the beefing up of military is about.
They did put out a report that said that, and it was presented to the government. I don’t know why I can’t find it but I remember reading it. It could’ve been a different organization as well. I think there was a post on Lemmygrad about it. They’re either beefing up the military to fight domestically or send our asses overseas, regardless it’s not looking good.
Yeah that's the one, I remember it because the other amazing bit was this
Indigenous peoples are formally involved in the governance of unceded territories across Canada, including in densely populated areas.
They just straight up admit that Canada is occupying sovereign indigenous land
Yes, that report is truly strange as it states everything so obviously and concisely, the language is incredibly easy to read and understand, and yet the only thing the government is actually concerned with was civil unrest. So much so that they might even be hardening our military because of it. Although, that is just a theory.
and yet the only thing the government is actually concerned with was civil unrest.
It makes sense, if you think about it. All our country's problems are self-inflicted; the system is acting exactly as intended.
The individual culprits' intents may not be exactly to revert the country back to feudalism (or to mask-off fascism), but collectively and effectively, it is what it is, and none of them are willing to change course (because it would eat into their bottom line). All the various rentiers that truly constitute the government and institutions of this country (the cartels/oligopolies, landlords, etc) are moving this country exactly in that direction.
Exactly, it's shockingly blunt and honest. They don't try to sugar coat it in any way, which was really amazing to me. Perhaps it wasn't expect to be made public?
I wonder if lack of regulations would benefit industry (at the workers' expense and lives ofc) or just make everything collapse faster
The trick here is to realize that the two sides of the debate on the level of government intervention are fictionalized controversy that does not represent Socialism and Capitalism which got redefined by Pax Americana to confuse people. The actual difference between Socialism and Capitalism is the economic classes that is in government. The real issue is the political motive of the people who create the regulations and not the regulation itself.
Like, what “red tape” are they even talking about? I honestly don’t think it’s cool for them to complain about constraints in the military industry.
I'll be fighting Canada from the inside, but I'm in!
Does anyone in this country want war ? Sure there are some deranged PMC neolibs out there but I spend most of time around median or below income people, aka most people, and I'd say even the most reactionary amongst them have no appetite for war. All vibes based analysis really but the disconnect between the "average" person here and the actions/rhetoric of our government just seems so far removed. Not sure what to make of it really.
Indeed, seems like the only people who want ware are the media and the government.
The population is so divided about what it wants, or what it thinks it wants, it can't process the strategic realities we're dealing with right now.
I think this quote illustrates the Canadian populations’ general feelings on mobilization. They seem frustrated that the citizenry is not on the same page as the government. I’m certain if a national poll was done most people would say they don't want to go to war.
I think this quote is a mealy-mouthed way of saying that basically every Canadian is up to their asses in debt and struggling to get the bare minimum they need out of life so no, they really don't care what NATO wants. We're not "divided", we're broke af and have bigger concerns. CBC journos really are something else. Do THEY know the "strategic realities"? If they did maybe they wouldn't write pro-war puff pieces like this.
So many people I know here are either sick or chronically ill because they have no family doctor. Hell, most people I know my age want to LEAVE Canada altogether because we loathe it here despite being born here. There are certainly old geezers here and spoiled bougies flying Ukraine flags who would be fine with war and death because they already got what they needed out of life and watch propaganda 24/7.
For the rest of us who have already sacrificed and settled for so little (even having my own place to myself while working full time is a fairy tale now), we aren't going to just happily sacrifice more so that Trudeau and parliament can sit around some more and eat bonbons and play war games. We're going to be pissed and resist in any way possible. I think it would politically push a lot of people over the edge, possibly into communism, but I think we all know it's more likely to be fascism. It's not like the NDP are going to put up any kind of actual fight lol, they're a worthless lib party now. Canada can go fuck itself in other words.
Took the words out my mouth, truly despise it here.
They've spent generations alienating and atomizing us to extract more profit, more rent, more income, neglecting our basic needs, but now suddenly we're supposed to believe we're all in this together? I'm going to laugh my ass off when this place crumbles lol I've been waiting for it my whole life.
Interesting choice of title. I believe it is a reference to "Operation: Unthinkable" which is full war with the eastern bloc.
wonder if the propagandist who wrote the article was aware enough to realize that
Damn son, you mean your years of warmongering and antagonization might actually lead to a wider conflict? Who could've guessed
There has been an increase in military exercise and spending, as well as in war propaganda over here. Seems like they really are expecting something to go down. We might actually see a war happening.
I really hope these idiots don't drag us into WW3. It's certainly looking more likely by the day though.
Seems like a good time to quit NATO.
indeed
