That's good and not. The good thing is they found it, but the bad thing is that the autopilot still needs some work.

It's not really an autopilot if it crashes after pilot ejects.

I'm assuming the pilot didn't eject from a perfectly good aircraft, so we can't necessarily blame the autopilot.

[-] squiblet@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

I don’t think they do auto-landings.

[-] MNByChoice@midwest.social 4 points 1 year ago

They don't, but the autopilot could use some tweaks. Like turning on a transponder after an ejection while on a training run.

It's surprising they didn't know exactly where it was at all times. I'd assume it already had GPS transmitter or something on? Maybe they don't, for stealth. But wouldn't the FAA know where it is?

Also not very stealthy if they found it after all /s

"please contact the marines"... How does that work? Does every U.S. citizen have a "call the marines" card in order one of you ~~finds oil in a country with a weaker military~~ spots some country that urgently needs some democracy?

Amazing to me they can lose something that big over mainland USA.

[-] TimeSquirrel@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago

How much would it freak you out of I told you that they've lost several nukes over the last 80 years as well?

[-] PeWu@lemmy.ml -1 points 1 year ago

Yet they find each and every alien spacecraft.

[-] Pons_Aelius@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

Nah, they have never found mine.

[-] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

This is possibly the funniest thing that has ever happened.

[-] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Nah, Hexbear defederating themselves from Lemmy.nz was funnier.
