I received an email about threads and Mastadon a bit ago. The thing is I deleted my Mastadon account a hot minute after I created it. The email has no way to unsubscribe from it

I would like to be comforted that I’m overthinking this. My Mastadon account was a couple of years ago in both creation and deletion. It’s incredibly disconcerting.

You don't have an account with Mastodon. You have a Mastodon account with sdf.org. Their mailing list that sent the email and the Mastodon instance they run are probably separate systems. You can forward your email to membership@sdf.org and ask to be removed.

Thank you. This is helpful. It’s 4am here and anxiety is a fucking brutal boss. Cheers

Just a reminder that "Mastodon" is the software, not the specific service provider. Mastodon.sdf.org is different from, say, Mastodon.social even though they run the same software.

If you haven't already, you should contact the admin for that instance with your concerns. The contact the site lists is mastodon@mastodon.sdf.org

Thank you, I appreciate the pointers a huge ammount

If you don't want the email and have no unsubscribe button, report as Spam. It sucks but them's the rules.

Already done but more concerned about my data having been stored and no way to ask to have it removed directly. Thank you for your response though. I’m in the UK and the right to be removed from their mailing list is the very least a business related email is supposed to offer.

You won't have to worry about your data. Mastodon is cool.

Considering they deleted their account years ago but they kept their contact data: yes, they should worry.

[–] Grant_M@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes. Somehow I misunderstood/misread what happened.

Sorry, it’s me panicsplaining things. Not you

I really hope it all gets solved to your satisfaction! The folks around the Mastodon project really seem to want to keep things good. I'm not a Zuck fan either. Looking at some of the people Threads is using as standard bearers, Jack Posobiec and that group, it's unlikely the Threads instance will satisfy the criteria for Federation anyway. :)

Thank you. I feel like I’m being a bit mad in the comments here

I literally had account for less than an hour on the site and, after deleting my account a couple of years ago at the end of the time I was there, I receive an email from them. Why do they still have my fucking email address? I’ve submitted a right to be forgotten request anyway.

Hopefully you can get it all sorted out. I guess the account was with Eugen's instance, mastodon.social? Sorry, I initially misread your post.

If you look at the email screenshot it’s from sdf.org. They’re pretty awesome and I’m guessing it’s just some sort of oversight. OP should just send them an email and I’m sure they’d resolve it.

[–] Grant_M@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Oh, absolutely! Good people.

That e-mail isn't from Mastodon, it's from SDF.org. It relates to their Mastodon instance - and Mastodon in general - but it's specifically an update relating to the service they offer.

Might want to check to see if you have an account there.

Sorry I should clarify, I haven’t had an account with Mastadon for, at least, 2 years

[–] Firipu@startrek.website 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean... Are you panicking over a mail? I'm missing something...

[–] LollyActionGinger@lemmy.ml -5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I just mean in my haste to get the problem across I am not doing a good job of using words. Don’t be so literal

[–] carlesmu@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can export your mastodon user to other instance. There are plenty of them that have started to block threads.

[–] LollyActionGinger@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My post is literally about the fact I don’t have an account there……….

[–] xintrik@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Only looking at the collapsed post I can see why they might think it was about Threads.
