I'm sorry, bud. But our expiration date is 2039.

The first universe simulator will be built, and it'll crash our current simulation due to recursion.

[–] Manzas@lemdro.id 8 points 2 months ago

It will just run real slow ,just like a vm in a vm

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How are we running in a simulation if the first simulator hasn't been built?

[–] IDKWhatUsernametoPutHereLolol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

It has been built, out in the real world, just not within this simulation.

[–] dance_ninja@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Maddie, please fix.

Do you have any 32 bit computers anymore? Any running important stuff that needs good dates?

[–] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Lots of embedded systems and infrastructure. But yeah, nothing important like your porn watching device.

[–] psud@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And as long as they get updated, it'll be fine. Probably cheaper than Y2K. Note that medical and industrial control stuff generally doesn't care about the date

[–] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 months ago

As long as they can be updated.

It's not about having accurate dates, it's about how unix time is used in programming. For some systems that reference unix time for essential calculations, that value rolling over and overflowing would cause catastrophic problems

[–] psud@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Sure but that means a workaround for machines affected, but not needing correct dates could be to set their clocks to midnight Jan 1 1970 and have another 65 years to sort it out

Anyway, the biggest problem will be embedded systems, including many household and business smart devices. Several I have are definitely 32 bit machines and might use 32 bit time precise to the second. Some I don't know. I have no idea what processor my TV uses

The year after epoch overflows?

[–] psud@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

On 32 bit computers

That’s why I was one of the few to downvote.

This guy is no Luigi Sr.

[–] FateOfTheCrow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 34 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I was already almost always picking Luigi. Recent events have only solidified my choice.

[–] MisterFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Original MarioKart DS, Luigi in his vacuum go-kart was peak performance

Nice meme, unfortunate image choice (isn't that the wrestling billionaire CEO?).

[–] macgyver@federation.red 15 points 2 months ago

Not anymore lol

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The fact that he used Luigi as his Steam avatar makes it even better.

[–] ExplosiveLynx@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Man's got good taste in games

[–] Baguette@lemm.ee 6 points 2 months ago

Ftl is a based game to have in your most played list

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 21 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Within a few months, Nintendo will have renamed him to Leroy or something, and put out a press release that it had been in the planning for a few years, to refresh the franchise for a new generation of players and so on, and obviously had nothing to do with Luigi having become a symbol of insurrection.

sad wrestling man

[–] AgentGrimstone@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I'm going to guess it's from the recent documentary on Netflix, "Mr. McMahon"

[–] Timmy_Jizz_Tits@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

From a documentary about the undertaker. Vince McMahon had a sex toy named after him if I remember his sex trafficking lawsuit correctly.

[–] zippythezigzag@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

A movie called The Sandlot. I grew up watching this. It was pretty popular at the time but it's considered old now. 😞

[–] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

I had just started getting comfortable with either big (waluigi) or baby (toadette) in kart 8 . Guess I'm going back to medium.

[–] NickwithaC@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I chose Luigi before it was cool! I drove as him in Double Dash!

[–] camr_on@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Luigi and baby Luigi in the Luigi kart
