Thanks for the thorough research! Considering it was painted quite recently my guess was also a simple mistake. I was really surprise seeing the flag used is such a historical context

Yes I know about the Fleur de Lys, the fleurdelisé is the specific name given to the Quebec flag that has a representation of the Fleur de Lys in each corners. That's the flag seen in this painting.

I'm trying to find if the fleurdelisé was used prior to being the official Quebec's flag (1948) but I can't seem to find much.

All I could find about this painting is that it was made by Marek Szysko so maybe it was modernized a little(?)
