It was more or less amicable... if you disregarded the rampant slavery that was going on (Portuguese were big in the Asian slave trade, and feudal Japan was a hellhole- though fwiw the highest authorities on both sides seem to have been horrified by it and sent missives in that regard - the Japanese for obvious reasons, and the Portuguese due to concerns it was affecting evangelization).

The Portuguese authorities eventually tried to ban the east Asian slave trade (because they wanted to continue trade relations and there was real risk of being locked out).

Relations with the Japanese otherwise seem to have been peaceful, which honestly is kinda surprising considering how they infamously behaved across the entire Indian ocean and even initially in China (tons of piracy and slave raiding on coastal towns).

It'll be a good start. The most important thing though will definitely be overthrowing the evil empire which disincentivizes and works to prevent agricultural self-sufficiency across the global south (Prof. Michael Hudson has a great talk on this and more), which uses illegal sanctions and destabilization (like in Syria where they openly state the prime agricultural and oil-producing regions are specifically targeted for occupation) to manufacture famines, and which threatens the shipping lanes of the entire globe.

How about the best of both worlds? Orange man wins, gets JFKed during the inauguration. Bonus points if the shooter appeared in yet another BlackRock ad or had a history "recruiting" for Ukraine/Taiwan (or better yet, is involved in both).

I'm pretty sure it happened many times? Not all cultures are rampaging hordes like the west Europeans, though even then given enough time and contact conflict becomes more likely to arise.

For essentially peaceful first contacts, the Chinese treasure fleets of the Ming Dynasty come to mind. They sent out their voyages six times, traveling around the southeast Asia and the Indian ocean (to India, Arabia, east Africa, and Iran). They had varying degrees of prior contact with many of those they visited, but further out as they went further west and south they only knew the routes. Other than some minor anti-piracy activity, overthrowing a Sri Lankan king who was engaging in piracy against Chinese trade partners in favor of an ally, and helping an ally in Indonesia (in Sumatra) reclaim their throne from an usurper, it was primarily peaceful and mutually beneficial on all sides. Gifts and tribute were exchanged, and ambassadors and samplings of goods from previously known but not directly contacted regions returned with the fleets.

There is also history of peaceful trade (probably with no real reason for conflict) between Indonesians (Makassans) and pre-colonial, aboriginal Australian societies.

This is not figurative. She thinks US government officials are literal demons.

They may as well be, TBH. The US govt is made of humans with the mentality of demons (settlers), and this lady as well as a good chunk of the US populace and that of the collective west (fingers crossed as to whether it reaches majority numbers or not- I feel it's probably close but not quite there) have that same "effectively demonic" settler-imperialist mentality.

I'm saying this as an atheist who doesn't believe in demons (seeing the horrors inflicted upon Gaza, it would be awfully nice if there was a hell however). Yeah, sure, this lady is dangerous, and a threat to decent society. The whole socioeconomic framework of the culture she lives in is also equally dangerous and worse, and people like her are a dime a dozen. It's just the truth of living in the shithole west, not saying that's ideal, but this is the nature of the system and this is what the system intentionally creates and promotes. Decent society would either institutionalize and attempt to re-educate this lady or throw her in the cuck pit if necessary, here in the west she could probably make a hell of a career (literally) in politics or showbiz (no difference really)...

Personally, I'm hoping he wins and then gets offed. Even better yet if he gets offed after further marshalling up support post-win and while he's in the process of negotiating peace. I'm imagining that will be the most disruptive way to go for the AmeriKKKan reich.

Trump also has voiced opposition to the war in Ukraine, escalation with Russia and even the notion of WW3 with China.

Still a ghoul and as genocidal against Palestinians as anyone else in the US govt, still not someone anyone should support. But between these things and his threats of sanctioning countries that divest from the USD I honestly kinda hope that if either of two devils wins, he does. I imagine he'll be JFKed before he ever dares throw a wrench in the march to WW3 (if he dares- doubt) though

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 34 points 1 week ago

Personally, I think she should be treated just like the Palestinians are being treated right now. She doesn't see anything wrong with how the Isntrealis and the US govt. are behaving after all, right? Surely everything will be fine and agreeable by her standards?

It's a term used as much by genuine progressives as it is by reactionaries IMO (for instance in critiques of white feminism, imperialist feminism and western pinkwashing, etc). There is a genuine larger world of feminists (and other progressives) out there who have serious bones to pick with the western portrayal of itself as the end-goal and arbiter of progress..

There's Islamic feminism, indigenous feminism, black feminism, communist feminism, etc. Even western feminism (and "feminism") has its serious divisions and many outright wreckers/appropriaters tbh.
