Must not have sarcasm where you're from huh?
lol, no kidding. Even watching it as a kid my first thought was, "the fate of Data's rights can be determined in an impromptu court session with bridge crew acting as lawyers!? Shouldn't they have... real courts for this?". At the time I didn't consider the limitations of the show of course, and I do think the willingness to tackle high concepts was what made the show so special. But damn did the limitations show in this one.
You are not taking crazy pills, its premise does suffer when watched with a "critical eye" (i.e. thinking about it even a little).
The reason it's remembered so fondly (imho) is two fold. It is one of the first "thought provoking" episodes. And the first couple of seasons were... not the best to put it mildly.
edit: admittedly, I do enjoy it, but I really have to turn my brain off to do so.
The Communist Party USA – like the bulk of the broad democratic, labor, peace, and people’s movements in the country – has prioritized the defeat of MAGA fascism and Republicans’ Project 2025 agenda as the primary task of its participation in the 2024 election
I get the knee jerk reaction to think any and all third parties exist solely to be a spoiler for Dems and thusly get Trump elected. But I wonder if the people down voting this noticed that the Communist Party USA isn't pushing a candidate, and is instead saying people should vote for Kamala to defeat fascism.
The article linked just talks about various progressive goals and how said Party hopes to achieve them.
Their website even has a recent article talking about how all a progressive candidate can do in this presidential election is break up the vote and usher in fascism under Trump. And how instead pushing for a united front is the way to go.
Caring about these bench marks is how you find one to last another 12 years.
Quit Stalin, it's time to be Putin Tankies in their place!
Tim stop! I already voted for you, I can't vote any harder!!!
Do Jet Grind Radio next and I'll steal the election for you!
You think he ever gets tired of being right all the time?
I fully believe the system we live in is broken, and is nowhere near "the best". But the system does have many people who are indoctrinated, and many who benefit from it too greatly to make me believe we have sufficient time to derail it before some of the death implied in this meme comes.
But if you have a plan more tangible then telling people "wake up sheeple!", then I'm ready to hear it. And if it's actually convincing, then I'm ready to help.
But randomly telling people they have been indoctrinated, declaring it to be self evident, and then accusing them of being beyond help if they don't see it, is nothing more than pointless moral masturbation. Maybe it makes you feel better, but it's not helping nor convincing anyone.
Let me know what your plan is when you have it figured out. In the mean time, I'm going to go back to helping who I can.
sniff
They already do Hideo, they already do.
"Alright boys, I want you to break into that warehouse and steal all the cheddar!"
"On it Boss!"
A few hours later
"What do you mean you stole 22 tonnes of cheese!? I meant the money you numbskulls!"
"But Boss, I can feel my skull just fine?"
"Aaarrrgggg!!!"
I get that, I'm tired of seeing people take every joke on the internet literally, so I guess we all have our pet peeves.
