I think one problem not mentioned yet is how much of democrat leadership works closely with republicans throughout their daily lives. These ghouls grow up going to the same schools. They work at the same law firms doing the same internships. Then they get careers where they have to talk to republicans on a daily basis. Sometimes it's on the phone, sometimes it's over meals.

They've stared too long into the abyss. They get used to coming to an agreement with GOP serial killers over what catering to order for dinner, they start thinking it works for healthcare bills.

I do think they're also deliberate in guarding capitalism from leftwing mobs. I haven't said anything new, this is class solidarity manifesting among the bourgeois. I just wonder if there's actual, true believers in "reaching across the aisle" or if it's a cynical ploy to invent reality.
