they OWN them, too. like arent on mortgages.

also, once your home is paid off, no property taxes. you never owe another penny on it except for maintenance

There's a time limit of how long you get to own it, but it's going to last past your lifetime anyways and how many people are living in generational homes? A leasehold land going back to the government also means new development to fit the new requirements of the city can be done in the future. (Not to mention this would prevent companies from holding large swath of lands forever and eventually become bigger than god)
