Part of me wants to think this movie was a psyop done by closet reactionaries to make a movie to stoke anti-trans hatred.
The funny thing is that the reaction I've seen from Mexican people and latinx people has been relatively free of transphobia, much less than what I expected, because I still have the perception the average latinx person feels relatively free to be transphobic.
Meanwhile, Mexican trans women made a parody film using only French stereotypes so "they know what it's like" and it's fucking kino . Most people support it and like it, regardless of their position on trans rights. .
