I plan on playing the remake of the 1st eventually too, I've just heard BioShock takes more after 2 specifically than 1, and that the games are fairly stand-alone so I won't be too lost just jumping in at the sequel.

Only played the original. My advice, is to save psionics for playthrough 2. It's super fun, but is best on another playthrough. Also, it's more RPG focused and ImSim focused than Bioshock.
