Hey - if Larian gets some of that Netflix munny it’ll probably make another awesome game in 4-6 years. I’m down for that. And there’s still that very slim possibility it’s actually good. I’m going to choose to be cautiously optimistic.

I'll play devils pessimist and say that if Larian gets more money then the next game will probably be hot garbage because they'll have even more sponsors/investors to have to answer to.

How much money would Larian even get? WotC owns the IP and licensed it to Larian for BG3.

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Yeah, most likely most of it would just go into WotC pockets.

I imagine Larian owns the specific BG3 characters though.

Some of the characters are from DnD Forgotton Realms lore like Elminster, while some other characters are from previous BG games not originated by Larian like Minsc.

Agree. Part of why they've made such great stuff is that they're independent and self-publishing. There's nobody to rush them to market, and nobody outside the organization meddling in development. If Netflix (or some other company) gets its claws into them, I'd expect to see a huge drop in quality in favor of more focus-grouped bazinga bullshit.

Otoh Larian isn't public, yet. As long as the company doesn't end up on soulless cunts in suits' hands, I'd bet on Larian to make a good game.

Top guy looks like a big nerd too, that's a good sign.
