Company towns but they're all basically private prisons held by different corporations. You can apply for transfer between them, but there's no commons or society outside of them for the proles. Neoliberalism's psychological prison is just way too effective to just lock everyone up in cages, but the frills we have now will go away and freedom to dilly dally will be largely restricted as climate change makes interstate borders in the US much more relevant. I say this a lot nowadays but I recommend reading The Grapes of Wrath and Parable of the Sower.
I double this recommendation highly as a former educator.
