Yes, yes I know we're already kind of there, but I mean without the current infighting and clash between finance vampires and industrial vampires and other gridlock factors. porky-scared-flipped porky-scared

Fascism burns itself out fast with the constant need to purge and loot until nothing is left, so I know even 20 years of unmitigated fascism is a stretch. Still, what do you think a "they get absolutely everything they want, fire all US government employees and replace them at the low echelon with Billy Bob, the middle echelon with James Holden Bloodfeast III, and their favorite Youtubers at the top echelon" complete and total MAGA victory might look like? flashbang

Try to hold it together and stretch your sense of disbelief that the hogs get the feed they've been squealing for, from mere reappropriated resources (the way nazis murdered and looted and redistributed to their favorite failfamilies) or even something surreal like the incel supporters actually getting government issued slaves while destroying all other safety nets entirely, if you dare. After all, Dr. Professor Lobster Esquire PhD MD says that's the price of civilization, bucko. up-yours-woke-moralists

Let's be generous and assume no outright nuclear war, just so there's something to actually visualize other than a more actually historically accurate version of the Fallouterino treats. soypoint-1 nuke soypoint-2

Come stay in Guatemala for a month and live as a local. And I don’t mean as a well-off local in Antigua or anywhere else expats tend to stay. You’ll understand what it’ll look like after the month is over.

Company towns but they're all basically private prisons held by different corporations. You can apply for transfer between them, but there's no commons or society outside of them for the proles. Neoliberalism's psychological prison is just way too effective to just lock everyone up in cages, but the frills we have now will go away and freedom to dilly dally will be largely restricted as climate change makes interstate borders in the US much more relevant. I say this a lot nowadays but I recommend reading The Grapes of Wrath and Parable of the Sower.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

The Grapes of Wrath

I double this recommendation highly as a former educator.

If you want a lighter version that's still one hell of a read if a shorter one, check out In Dubious Battle by the same author.

Honestly? What we have right now, or what happened during the Trump administration. Just keep the hogs busy with the jangly keys while the Adults in the party do the governing

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

Not much change even with a clumsy Brexit-tier unraveling of the admittedly-shitty status quo at a bureaucratic lvel?

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

What would we even brexit from? NATO? It's us and our goons armed with our guns. The UN? The security council suddenly becomes somewhat more effective.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

What I meant by that is a big clumsy mass upheaval without any thought-out plan, like Brexit was.

Purging all government offices would have so much brain drain, sabotage from rightfully pissed workers, and other factors I can't even fully fathom, and having a bunch of sycophantic chuds bumblefucking in all at the same time would be a circus fire of carnipocalyptic proportions.

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

Purging all government offices would be even more immediately apocalyptic than brexit. Like I'm pretty sure the UKKK still has some form of food safety regulation (for now)

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

I've heard from techbro bazingas, live and in person, that "government can't do food safety right" and therefore they'll just do it themselves. doubt

[-] footfaults@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

I think the things that they care about would continue while the things they don't would get taken apart, but in a more rapid fashion than the "starve the beast" approach that there been doing for half a century.

So, not much change?

It would be largely what we have right now. The only thing holding the US administrative state together right now is that lawsuits challenging federal agencies rules and regulatikn re: Chevron Deference being overturned haven't advanced through the system yet or cases haven't been brought to cripple the agencies (yet).

In terms of things I imagine would get worse quickly:

  • After they purge as many federal employees as possible who aren't explicitly Republican-aligned they basically break the remaining welfare programs and sell any remaing state-controlled assets to themselves (probably a lot of water rights nationwide and any held or protected federal land)
  • Minorities see increased harassment/identification from increased coordination between the remaining enforcement/investigative federal agencies and local police departments that result in deportations/indefinite detention facilities
  • NLRB is gutted immediately instead of through Chevron-route challenges and and expansion of legislation making unions actually completely toothless
[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

expansion of legislation making unions actually completely toothless

They could make unions illegal and make it a felony to be in anything they consider to be an underground union.

[-] BobDole@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

It would specifically exempt cop unions, of course

[-] bigboopballs@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

The secret is that the USA has already been chuds' ideal world for most of its existence.

[-] Wheaties@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yeah, if you ask a conservative to design their ideal government, they almost without fail end up recreating the Articles of Confederation from first principles.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

In some ways, they may shit their own bed in the future, so to speak.

[-] bigboopballs@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

I am so tired of the Nothing Ever Happens era, aka the decades where weeks happen.

[-] Owl@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I don't think there's a coherent answer to that. They want specific policies, and they want specific results, and they're not the results that come from the policies they want.

They want the government to do nothing, except also kill their enemies, and suppress anyone they think is inferior, and definitely stay out of business, except censoring any woke media. The results are what you expect from a fascist government - a few brutal years then it disintegrates under social unrest and bad economics.

But the result they want is a wholesome old timey sitcom with a doting wife and no sign of non-white people except maybe as maids and farm laborers, and also they're allowed to sexually harass their secretary and the mismatch between that and the doting wife fantasy is her problem. And I think that's, like, physically possible, if the government does a whole lot of repression, provides a robust white-men-only social safety network, and enforced hiring quotas (of white men). But those aren't the policies they want, and there will never be popular support for a nazbol movement (thank fuck), so it won't ever happen.

I'd imagine like techno favelas, actually kind of not far off from what we have now, like bleeding edge personal treat tech while infrastructure has become utterly precarious and the people live like serfs while the .0000000000000000000000000001% are patiently waiting to fuck off to mars.

JUST LIKE THE READY PLAYER ONERINOS! so-true

The sequel, which is somehow worse by far, even has the space treats escapist fantasy with slave harem characteristics as a happy ending. my-hero

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

Techno favelas like in the beginning of the novel Tulpa Uprising by Ulysses Tuggy

side-eye-1 side-eye-2

I admit that some of my early worldbuilding started with a reading of Ready Player One (chud relative gifted it to me) and saying "this is fucked. How else can this go besides some narcissistic asshole winning the bideo bame and becoming the new my-hero ?"

And Ready Player Two was even worse and the ending of that book was so horrifying that it basically was the basis of a lot of my villain class's motivations and goals.

spoiler

The sequel, Tulpa War, has a very brief easter egg name-drop indirectly referring to the bazinga creep and his ego-insert protagonist during the opening battle scene as a nerd with Main Character Syndrome that ran forward and immediately got torn apart by economy-tier drone swarms because he refused to fight alongside comrades like a proper soldier of the people.

shinji-froggy-chair pathetic

What I haven't read is ready player 1 or 2. I saw the movie, it was bad but I've heard the book is somehow even worse.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Appreciated! If you got to the end of Book 2 or Book 3, I'd love some private message feedback. I enjoy knowing how people respond to book 2's near-epilogue plot twist.

What I haven't read is ready player 1 or 2. I saw the movie, it was bad but I've heard the book is somehow even worse.

The Ready Player One/Twoerino books are even sex pestier and go off on rambling tangents about how much smarter and better than everyone else the supreme gentleman is that is really into a specific period of 1970s-1980s pop culture (minute the political us-foreign-policy or feeemale specific parts of that time which are conspicuously absent)

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

I finished Tulpa book 1 but haven't gotten to 2 or 3 yet.

I think I saw a picture somewhere of somebody holding a fairly thick section of pages from one of the ready player books captioned this part is literally just a list of pop culture references

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

sicko-wistful Understandable. I am especially proud of books 2 and 3. I sometimes wonder if I should have started with Book 2.

I think I saw a picture somewhere of somebody holding a fairly thick section of pages from one of the ready player books captioned this part is literally just a list of pop culture references

That isn't wrong. And the pop culture slop references are the least offensive part of those books.

I haven't read RP1 but I have read several the zanth novels and it sounds suspiciously similar in concept. There's a game you have to play and only if you're sigma grindset enough do you get to earn your place as a rich citizen.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

Very similar shit, though RP1 also requires a bunch of bazinga trivia quizzing. It's not enough to play bideo bame, you also have to guess what quirky old people trivia that the setting's my-hero left behind to find the le treasure.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

Death Stranding too, even if that's more about Climate Change tho

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Death Stranding, except the protagonist is a Randian Objectivist hero and says "fuck you this is my package now" and sits on a hoard of them until he dies. ancap-good

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

Those guys are in Death Stranding they're the lesser type of enemy. The greater type is ghosts you throw jars of piss at.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

Death Stranding has cutscenes of you filling the piss jars. Framed above the waist but still.

A weird Yankee fascist theocracy.

[-] EnsignRedshirt@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

Have you read ‘Oryx and Crake’ by Margaret Atwood? Her description of the pre-flood world is bang on, imo.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

S'good, and agreed.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 month ago

Total collapse into ungovernable warring states.

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

George W Bush presidency for 10 years and Ronald Reagan for another 10 years. Multiple wars against Iran similar to the multiple wars against Iraq.

I'm going to assume we're talking about the chuds themselves, not the people who lead them. I think firstly they're going to run into the problem that they're incredibly confused and self-contradicting politically. They'll push some confused populist reforms that will still be on the whole good for people. I think they would quickly set aside some of the more insane chud policies. Capitalists will try to get ahold of the situation but honestly? Without the liberal party coming to clean up some of the more glaring mistakes every 4-8 years chud politics aren't stable in the long run. I think we'll end up with very confused democrats before the end of a decade.

I'm picturing CyberPunk, but no flying cars, no cyberware, and most importantly no vegetables

Not even synthetic ones

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

and most importantly no vegetables

Not even synthetic ones

The epic bacon treat hog chuds would see that as an upside. grillman

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Which is exactly why they'd go for it

Some synthetic bacon and a dick-sucking machine is all they want out of life

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

From what I've seen while lurking in /pol/ and /r9k/ and even /a/ years ago, a lot of chanlords' idea of paradise is just another hell with more dopamine buttons.

Some synthetic bacon and a dick-sucking machine

So - SynthBacon BJ Fleshlights that are edible?

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

I don't think they'd go for that
