Does it (do they?) stand up like that? Or is this a dead one. Either way it looks bad ass as shit. Like scale it up right, add a artisty style, boom dnd monster.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 126 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Fun fact! This beetle is illegal in Florida.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago

Got dammit, when will they get these illegals out of here already?!?

Americans hate this one simple beetle!

[–] Draces@lemmy.world 38 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Tell that to Gavin Newsome

Here's a super rare, cool, and interesting beetle!
*posts a super low quality image*

Here you go, since OP doesn't care about quality.

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 30 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Appreciate your images. But I don’t think that shade on OP was necessary lol.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 5 points 4 days ago

The shade absolutely was necessary. This isn't reddit; have some standards.

The one tagged "female" was just a bottom view and they both look similiar? Is that the joke?

[–] JustAnotherKay@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No there's no joke. It's the same beetle, top and bottom. Split down the middle to be genetically male and female

[–] mexicancartel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Ohh ohh damn lol. Posting two pictures was extremely confusing given "left" and "right"

Reminds me of something I drew a while back.

I screwed up the equal length of the mandibles from the reference image. They look very similar to this bettle though. The body texture and shape is not quite right though.

Inter-sects

[–] einlander@lemmy.world 61 points 5 days ago (14 children)

But there are only 2 genders, no in-between

[–] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 33 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Thats the oldest looking baby I've ever seen

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 28 points 5 days ago

This looks like Turkish actor Mehmet Cerrahoglu, most famous for playing the villian in the horror movie Baskin. He is suffering from Gapo Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder.

[–] Okokimup@lemmy.world 39 points 5 days ago

Obviously beetles aren't smart enough to comprehend 5th grade science.

Only one way to find out.

*Squish*

With this character's death, the threads of prophecy have been severed. You may load a saved game, or persist in this doomed world that you have created.

Yup..

It's the difference in eyes that messes with me.

I feel immensely awful for this guy

[–] allywilson@lemmy.ml 20 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That's really interestng. I assume it's the left photo from above and the right photo from below.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gynandromorphism

Genuinely an interesting mutation, it's weird that it's listed as happening in Rodents but not other mammals? Is that just a numbers thing I wonder?

[–] burgersc12@mander.xyz 6 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Well, you can see where the legs connect on the right one, but not the left one, so yeah

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago

Elon Musk’s least favorite beetle that isn’t named after Hitler

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago

It must be annoying having mandibles different length like that.

[–] SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

As is usually the case, the left is very horny

[–] oxideseven@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 days ago

This is some Slaanesh shit!

[–] vane@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

So toilets are usually female - male but beetles are male - female to make circle - female symbol on toilet. Noted, from now on when I spot beetle I will compare it with toilet to figure out if it's male or female.

[–] digdilem@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago

But which toilet does it use?!
