On this day in 1976, Palestinians initiated a campaign of resistance, including a general strike, occupations, and violent confrontation with police, in opposition to Israeli settlement plans. The uprising is commemorated annually as Land Day.

Land Day was not a spontaneous uprising, but the result of months of planning. On May 21st, 1975, activists and Arab intellectuals held a meeting in Haifa to discuss a strategic response to Israel stepping up its campaign to appropriate Palestinian-owned land. This began a series of meetings over which the campaign was conceptualized, including a general congress that was the largest public gathering of Palestinians in Israel since 1948.

On February 14th, 1976, more than 5,000 residents rallied in the village of Sakhnin, calling for a general strike in response to Israeli repression. To prepare for the strike, local land defense committees and branches of the Communist Party distributed leaflets, organized demonstrations, and held meetings in several Arab towns and villages.

The first confrontations began on the eve of Land Day, March 29th as demonstrators in Arraba demanded the release of a local activist, closing the streets and setting fire to tires. Israeli soldiers fired on demonstrators with live ammunition, injuring many of them.

The following day, the general strike was initiated in Arab towns and villages, including the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and refugee camps in Lebanon. Israeli troops and border guards in military trucks and tanks raided Arab communities to arrest activist politicians and disperse demonstrators.

In total, six people were killed, approximately fifty were injured, and three hundred were arrested. When some of the injured applied for compensation, the Israeli Ministry of Defense categorized the Land Day confrontations as "combat activity".

The Interactive Encyclopedia of the Palestine Question describes Land Day's legacy this way: "Land Day was a turning point in the orientations and tools adopted for Palestinian struggle inside Israel. After Land Day the Palestinians in Israel gradually structured their presence as a national group inside Israel in a way that went beyond their local struggles."

During Land Day protests in 2018, seventeen Palestinians were killed, including five Hamas members, and more than 1,400 were injured in shootings by the Israeli Army during a march calling for the Palestinian right of return at the borders with Gaza.

The studio is great. Seth Rogen is pretty good at this cringe comedy stuff, he should consider doing it professionally.

Fallout won one award and Riot decides to abandon animation in favor of live action,

Riot is really the king of chasing trends, they always abandon everything (league spinoff games, card game) for the new thing.

man I was really enjoying this Magic Maker anime this past season, where this guy who wanted to learn magic dies after turning 30 (and not becoming a wizard) only to be reincarnated in a world where "magic doesn't exist"

his sister notices these trout exhibiting some sort of light-show phenomenon, and only certain people can see it, and he figures out from that that humans can produce a similar light through expressing strong emotions, and from there he begins to deduce and piece together his own magical theory and practical applications extending from it

It culminates in a fight with this resurrected demon who is basically hundreds of times more powerful, to the point that he can just create things like fire or lightning, while the MC can only do so through the use of tools. He barely defeats him through a combination of luck, the demon's hubris, and his own scientific understanding of how magic functions exceeding the demon's, allowing him to land a fatal blow at a critical moment

it was super cool because I really like shit like this in my cartoons and anyway I went to read the manga and read spoilers and IT WAS CANCELLED basically right where the anime ends

thanks for SUCKERING ME IN TO SOME CANCELLED BULLSHIT, JAPAN

The whole move is so good, but by far my favorite part is Clarence and his gang. Possibly Kurtwood Smith's greatest role ever. I love the "ontologically evil for the sake of evil, even to his own detriment" character. Also, his one henchman who gets coated in bright green toxic waste and instantly turns into a mutant before being hit by the truck and exploding in a giant shower of goo made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe. Movie heads can talk up and down about the message of the movie and how well it holds up or what it predicts so well etc, but I'm just here for the bad guys turning into mist

Walk softly, carry a pig's dick

Not that I ever believed it, but I’m starting to doubt the rationality of a market that still hasn’t priced in Trump’s tariffs.

Got banned from playing blackjack at the last place near my house. For over a year I've been playing here going from $25-250 and it hasn't been a problem, but i switched it up today and started going $25-500 and I guess that woke up the surveillance team.

I've got to vent a bit. In my local org, we've got a subgroup (just a group chat) to prepare the agenda for the next meeting. I created a text document and put some topics in it, but received no reply of any kind. Now, there's some current events happening, there was an optional meeting I skipped and people got together and created their own agenda. And it's perfectly fine; it contains everything I wrote down and other, more important things. It's just that the work I did was completely useless and nobody even bothered to tell me. These social interactions are very stressful to me and I have to make quite an effort to contain my emotions. This is really just my own problem, but I'm upset that I'm upset for no good reason.

Can't believe the new overwat hero with the most generic boilerplate design possible has the most interesting and realistically evil character in overwatch.

  • doesnt really care about saving people.
  • thinks a UN sanctioned deathsquad is just "a few bad actors"
  • becomes a Private Military Contractor after being unemployed
  • racist against omnics

Man it's so clear that my psychotic roommate would also just be a shitty roommate if the wasn't also psychotic. If he plays music so loud I couldn't also play music in my own room at the same time, it's too fucking loud. Goddamnit I don't feel like moving again, I don't even want to leave my room just in case he's having an episode and every sound he makes is putting me in full caution mode.

Gonna change out my cars radiator today, annoyed I have to move so many things. The way I do it is see an official version of the repair and the mechanic version that's pretty much "you shouldn't do this but" that makes a repair trivial.

Feels like I'm playing Whackamole with all of the things that are on my mind. Fixed my mindset on the relationship I'm building with my crush, only for work and my dad's health to become issues all over again. And the next time I resolve something else I'm sure other things are just going to pop up to ruin my mood.

MGS but Snake is voiced by Patrick Warburton but not in a Brock Sampson way where he puts some grit on his voice. David Putty/Kronk voice. Loud and clear as a bell

Gen z boss and a mini

After spending all weekend rooming with a guy who never stops talking and also has to present that he knows everything - even if it means giving an obviously wrong answer about something - I am now going to disappear into isolation for the next 3-4 months, minimum.

Edit: vaccine?? No thanks, I have a blueberry.

A canvasser wanted me to sign a "Freedom of religion in Japan" petition, and I just kinda blew her off but any guesses on what it might be? Lady already had pages of ζ£ which I assume is just her tally of signatures. If it's that one cult what got banned it would be so fucking funny.
