Perverts Guide to Ideology

“[Ellis] being gay allowed him to see the homoerotic rituals among these alpha males, which is also true in sports, and it’s true in Wall Street, and all these things where men are prizing their extreme competition and their ‘elevating their prowess’ kind of thing,” the director said. “There’s something very, very gay about the way they’re fetishizing looks and the gym.”

Harron went on to say “American Psycho” is “about a predatory society,” one that is actually much worse today. She added: “The rich are much richer, the poor are poorer. I would never have imagined that there would be a celebration of racism and white supremacy, which is basically what we have in the White House. I would never have imagined that we would live through that.”

It might damage the artistic nature of the project, but if you're trying to say something in a movie to a USAan audience, you need to have an aside at the end of the movie where you have the actors tell you what the movie was about

I've seen this pitch 150 times on this site. It wouldn't work. Most of the people misinterpreting these works so blatantly are doing so intentionally, they know they're bullshitting, but the bullshit makes them feel cool so they keep doing it. It doesn't matter how much you smear it in their face they're going to intentionally not get it.

Also everyone seems to assume it's the media DOING this to people and not that people like this are ATTRACTED to this media. I'm confident that if UlyssesT managed to destroy every copy of American Psycho, Fight Club and Breaking Bad in existence but kept everything else about Amerikkkan society the same it would still be pumping psychopaths, they'd just find some way to interpret My Little Pony as fash propaganda instead.

Okay, we quiz them afterwards then

If they get it wrong, punch them

Well now I know what UlyssesT is up to since he left permanently good luck to him in his quest rat-salute-2

I point out regularly that we do it too. Red Alert is pretty blatant anti-communist propaganda and we still post curry-space and stuff.

They were always gonna try to create the Torment Nexus, regardless of whether any cautionary tales were written about it.

they're way ahead of you I'm afraid

Yeah this quest for more wholesome Nazi proof media is pointless, no media is wholesome enough to prevent Nazi interpretation. There's probably Nazi Stardew Valley streams (I'm not gonna look).

Hmm perhaps this movie about a psychopath killing people is trying to send a message? cap-think

And that message is...

This is what masculinity is all about! so-true

I wonder how many of them actually watched american psycho vs some tiktok/YouTube short of a clip of Patrick Bateman

[–] Blep@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

I mean the closest the movie comes to making its point is where bateman is unable to kill his secretary

I take things too literally. No way I would've picked up on that underlying meaning.

So it's Fight Club without Meatloaf?
