"What is this capitalist crap"

[-] Shrike502@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Was it supposed to convince them to westernise or something?

[-] pinkeston@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Kim invited Red Velvet to perform because he's a huge fan

[-] muad_dibber@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

All of them thinking: "Okay maybe reunification isn't such a good idea after all".

[-] American_Communist22@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

"yeah if I was thinking about leaving, this destroyed any notion"

[-] Rafael_Luisi@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

The true kpop is dprk songs, those are fucking bangers

Liberals: "If the North Koreans watch just a little bit of western culture, they will immediately want to destroy their evil government".

North Koreans: "Yeah.... This isn't for me."

"they must have a gun pointed at them telling them not to like K-pop"

[-] Magos_Galactose@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Understandable. That's my reaction seeing K-pop for the first time as well.

Edit : Here's a video of that event. It's even funnier than a single image.

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 years ago

LMAO all those guys in suits on a k-pop concert. Not to mention it was actually very tame and conservative for a k-pop.

[-] Kind_Stone@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Those people were clearly coming to see some kind of a high value southern art and arrived in their best for such an occasoon. Oh boy-oh boy, what a weird day that was for most of them.

[-] juchebot88@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

My favorite moment is at 0:50. That south Korean diplomat or whoever he is seems to be thinking, "gosh, this is gonna blow their minds," while the guy with the Kim Il-Sung pin looks like he's trying really hard to avoid restarting the Fatherland Liberation War.

[-] lssssj@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

They would enjoy more a classic concert.

[-] muad_dibber@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

lol just a general disgusted / "this is extremely innappropriate" reaction.

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

They guy is totally like "Wtf i am seeing right now"

[-] 201dberg@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

I remember the first time the video was posted to reddit and all the neck beards were drooling over the singers and appalled by the audience not wanting to worship them. Then there were also the comments saying this is actually how respect is shown in the DPRK because their laws are so strict they would be executed for showing excitement or some bullshit.

[-] The_Monocle_Debacle@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Mfw I have to be exposed to empty-headed western decadence on a daily basis. Mfing if I have to hear about a Kardashian one more fucking time...

[-] Eat_Yo_Vegetables69@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

"The south gave up their independence for this?!"

[-] Magos_Galactose@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

"I don't think Unification is a good idea anymore"

[-] PropagandaBot@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

It is, but under DPRK terms.

[-] B0rodin@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

And they claim they need to be oppressed by the north Korean government to stop them leaving the dprk when ths South Korean culture seems to be doing all of the heavy lifting. Sometimes propaganda just starts disproving itself...

[-] Roof_Roach@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

When it comes to mindless mono-gendered pop ensembles, the DPRK continues to uphold Frankie Valli and the four seasons above all others.

[-] KomradeKristian@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

I had a similar reaction as well to be fair.

[-] holdengreen@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 years ago

I like kpop tho. North Koreans are based. Love that they try to be respectful and then clap intently at the end.

[-] panic@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 years ago

They were very respectful. There's a moment between songs where one of the women is out of breath, clearly nervous, and they just clap. Overall, pretty chill.

[-] American_Communist22@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Thats nice at least. The artists try hard at their work, and I would like k-pop more if there wasn't the whole corporation-basically-owns-the-artist's-soul thing going on.

[-] panic@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

the whole corporation-basically-owns-the-artist’s-soul thing going on

That's just capitalism ruining art for you, on the west they just steal money, and rights to their own image, from artists so they own souls the same way. Present day is so depressing.

[-] Beat_da_Rich@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

K-Pop is just an extension of Western pop too. The Disnry Kid to Fucked Up Adult pipeline is just the same.

[-] panic@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Thinking about this propaganda poster everyday:

soviet propaganda poster, "The path of talent"

Hellworld, hellworld

[-] American_Communist22@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Capitalism vs sovietism, Im depressed most live in the former
