(Tatanka Yotanka; in English, Sitting Bull; Grand River., 1834 - Fort Yates, id., 1890) Hunkpapa Lakota leader. As a young man he was part of the akicita (secret society) Brave Hearts, and gained fame for his deeds, which made him one of the most important Lakota leaders, strong defender of the ancient customs during the struggle of his people against American colonialism.

Sitting Bull formed cross-tribal alliances in his efforts to resist the process of colonization. Sitting Bull also steadfastly refused to become dependent on aid from the U.S. government.

On June 25th, 1876, Colonel Custer and his forces were wiped out at the battle of Little Big Horn. Sitting Bull did not take part in the battle, but acted as a kind of spiritual leader to those who did, performing the Sun Dance, in which he fasted and sacrificed over 100 pieces of flesh from his arms, a week prior.

In response, the U.S. government sent thousands more soldiers to the area, forcing many of the Lakota to surrender over the next year. Sitting Bull refused to surrender, and in May 1877, he led his band north to Wood Mountain, North-West Territories (now Saskatchewan). He remained there until 1881, when he and most of his band returned to U.S. territory and surrendered to U.S. forces.

In 1890, due to fears that Sitting Bull would use his influence to support the Ghost Dance movement (a movement of indigenous resistance), Indian Service agent James McLaughlin ordered his arrest. Early in the morning of December 15th, 39 police officers and four volunteers approached Sitting Bull's house. The camp awakened and men began to converge at the scene.

When Sitting Bull refused to comply, the police used force on him, enraging members of the village. Catch-the-Bear, a Lakota, shouldered his rifle and shot one of the Indian agents, who reacted by firing his revolver into the chest of Sitting Bull, killing him.

In 1953, his Lakota family exhumed what were believed to be his remains, reburying them near Mobridge, South Dakota, near his birthplace.

When you say you want to fuck the bunny cop, who is that to you? There's obviously desire there but desire not achieved...Does the bunny cop represent a missed opportunity? A friend you wish you could rewind time and say the right thing? Let's unpack this

I had a dream that Hexbear formed a party and successfully did socialist revolution in America, and I was Party Secretary and leader of the new socialist America and I had to worry about attempted coups from fellow Hexbear users who thought I wasn't going far enough.

Scummy bastards definitely just charge everybody and hope not everybody complains

Meanwhile my 3 friends got hit with a total 1.2k fee and they're letting it go...

my partner's dad (who's a white passing Cherokee redneck) has basically be pretty chuddy his entire life. she's been pushing him left after coming out both as trans and bi, since he defaults to "protecting his own" and extending that umbrella over everyone eventually. without much prompting she started discussing the Palestine situation with him and he was like "they are fighting with what they can, just like when raids were launched off the reservations". he was pretty solid in his support for them against the zionist entity and immediately dismissed much of the anti-hamas news as propaganda.

going from a fox news brain to tentatively supporting not just the Palestinian struggle accepting the role of hamas in it is pretty crazy. i would call the guy something of a left populist now which is a good start for a borderline gen x/boomer.

Lmfao, i was investigating something at work today, and looked at the network requests that the search feature of my company’s main product makes. On page load, it literally loads 26mb of data to show a search form and some results matching default filters.

Windows 95 fit on thirteen floppy disks!!!!! That’s 18mb!!!!!!

God I hate SV tech bros, the rot of the systems they have built is so fucking deep it’s unreal. For all the hype of SV being a hotbed of advanced technology, the venture capital model just produces a pyramid scheme of technical debt and no real innovation.

Just got back from a trip in which I had to be around work colleagues 16 hours a day for 2 weeks. I'm drained of course, socially, physically, they were very demanding days, but what is really weighing on my mind is how different I feel to them. I like to be curious and inquisitive, I like to ask questions and learn deeper things about people.

I think this really irritated my colleagues. Even the slightest question out of what's "normal" to ask got me labelled as someone who "gives an awful lot of things an awful lot of thought," which was meant to be something negative. I personally don't see it as a bad thing, I think the things I talk about stimulate interesting discussion, but they just want to talk about TikTok and talk shit on other coworkers, which I find horrendously dull.

It reinforced the idea that I already have that I'm "not normal," out of place, and that's an isolating feeling. I hate feeling bad about myself for a trait that I actually think is good.

I know they're my work colleagues, not my best friends, but it hurts because I have to see these people every day and it feels like I can't relate to them.

At a corporate diversity seminar today.

Instructor is an Asian woman who unironically cited Yeonmi Park to say β€œin North Korea they don’t even have favorite colors. When asked, a defector from there didn’t know and got scared and refused to answer”. Yeonmi Park hates wokeness, and would hate this seminar lol.

Not one mention of Palestine being genocided at all while 50 year old white women talked about how hard their Irish-American upbringing was.

What a fucking joke. An Asian woman lawyer who is trained to detect unconscious bias just regurgitates anti-Asian Korean War propaganda that was used to dehumanize and kill millions of Koreans (the general narrative that Koreans don’t have individuality or personality or favorite colors)

Edit: She's now citing and talking about the Stanford Prison Experiment

it's weird and frustrating how people in the United States still haven't really incorporated evolution into their world view. Each generation gets less and less religious, but there's never an examination of what that really means. For the most part, we're still operating off a protestant framework. I get that it mostly comes down to education, which is a constant cultur-war battle ground; but at this point in the 21st century its just embarrassing.

I've been growing more doomeristic by the day:

  • We live in a nihilistic world run by nihilists. Sure, the people in charge might give some spiel about 'Jesus' but their 'Jesus' is nihilistic as well. Look at the environment, hordes of boomers saying "Well I'll be dead before anything bad happens". So in other words "YOLO" is a perfectly valid reason to cause a mass extinction event.

  • The current cost of living crisis. To elaborate further on the whole nihilism of everything, we have an entire generation that was sabotaged by corporate greed with nonexistent pay and extremely high rent that cannot be questioned in polite society. It's seen as their god given right to make society worse with their gluttonous hedonism because of private property's sacred role. Your personal property is not as well-respected mind you, or even your personal details. You have a responsibility to share that with porky...for free of course. They'll even betray their own free-market principles to weaponize certain regulations to make sure housing is never built so that way their investment properties can surge in value while other people do the hard work of making the community more valuable in the first place. Even lesser capitalists get screwed over here.

I can go on forever but I'll just leave it at this.

I've been working through It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia from about season 12 onward. I'm just baffled at how the gang is in some ways extremely progressive in comparison the modern America while also still being stupidly shitty people. In the bathroom episode, they essentially say trans rights while still being shitty and Frank being racist, even though IRL Danny Devito is all sorts of progressive compared to the character he plays which must make that easier cause he just acts like the people he hates, i guess? A few episodes before that, they say the F-slur and the N-slur in the same episode and I was just gobsmacked by the latter. I asked someone, "can... can they even do that on TV?"

I guess it's why the show is funny at times. They get to the right conclusion sometimes but when they go to explain their logic it's all fucked up reasoning. They are sometimes sensitive to people's emotions or struggles but then are emotionally abusive out of ignorance. If I had to guess, I'd think the actors/writers are actually pretty progressive and they do the show as a sort of mirror satire or something. Then again, I sometimes get the sense that something is leftist media even though I know otherwise.
