The expenses are for a failed lawsuit the former president filed against the paper and its reporters.

On Friday, New York Supreme Court Judge Robert Reed, a Democrat, ordered Mr Trump to repay the New York Times for fees incurred by his failed legal action.

~~Asked~~ Ordered

Who the hell wrote that headline?

[–] Coach@lemmy.world 43 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (2 children)

Great point! I submitted a correction request to the BBC. The media can't stop treating this chucklefuck with kid gloves (you know...the kind of gloves worn on this dictator-wannabe's baby hands).

Edit: Great news! The BBC updated the headline to one that is more accurate. Great job, fam!

Thank you for submitting a correction request!

Appreciate it. It's dishonest and sick of it too

That headline had me asking myself the same thing. Was this an order to pay or was this what the NY times asked for in the suit. Apparently the former. WTF is with the media?

I submitted a correction request. If enough of us complain, hopefully they will fix it.

Here’s how to report:

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

It was ordered, but what Trump hear is "asked".

[–] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

Considering how everyone else on the right has been staving off actually paying what they owe, I think it's kind of accurate

[–] takeda@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

I want to know how author figured out the judge is a Democrat and that it matters. Is it because he is black?

[–] markr@lemmy.world 38 points 10 months ago

where 'asked' == 'ordered'. WTF BBC.

[–] whatupwiththat@kbin.social 25 points 10 months ago

a trump never pays

The impunity this guy has is fucking bonkers. Anyone with half as much legal or financial problems would have their asses handed to them. If that's not privilege I don't know what it is.

[–] medicsofanarchy@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago

This headline makes it seem as though Trump requested permission to give $400K to the NYT. Suck headline.

[–] NegativeLookBehind@kbin.social 14 points 10 months ago

“Asked” ?

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago
[–] Fridgeratr@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

We are no longer asking

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

The obvious and blatant dip in journalistic quality in the last decade is concerning. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that MSM is intentionally creating logical and factual discrepancies in order to sow discord between the working class. But I think it's just as time goes on, journalists and editors are just getting progressively dumber.

[–] eguidarelli@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

'Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence.’

The News Industry is profit driven just like all the rest. I wouldn’t point blame journalists for being dumber when it’s just as likely that it’s management pushing for more content with quicker turn around times.

Long term investigative journalism is expensive and the output is still only one article. From a profit prospective, why not spend the same investment in puff pieces to produce a dozen articles written to drive engagement.

BBC is run by tories, so the slant here is they want trump back.
