Pretty much the title. I think you all know what I'm talking about.

I still call it Twitter, because that's what it is.

[–] nickhammes@lemmy.world 55 points 10 months ago

When he stops deadnaming his daughter, maybe I'll start to care about his attempted rebrand of Twitter

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I still call Meta Facebook and alphabet Google... No one is confused, it's only ambiguous if you start getting into logistics about business units

Twitter didn't even reorganize, they just changed their name to something it feels dumb to say. It's actually less ambiguous to call it Twitter, because X is a confusing trademark

This is the only sane response.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 71 points 10 months ago (12 children)

As a trans person, I like to remind everyone you are not just allowed but encouraged to deadname Twitter

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 48 points 10 months ago

Calling it deadnaming implies Twitter chose the name X. Twitter did not make that decision, thus calling Twitter Twitter is in no danger of offending Twitter.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 24 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Going to deadname Twitter as long as musk is deadnaming his daughter

[–] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 months ago

Oohhh that’s a good one.

[–] BoastfulDaedra@lemmynsfw.com 13 points 10 months ago (1 children)

...what the heck is "deadnaming"?

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 19 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (2 children)

Using a trans persons's birth name rather than their preferred name. If done purposefully, it's extremely insulting.

[–] BoastfulDaedra@lemmynsfw.com 10 points 10 months ago

Thanks, I hadn't heard the term.

Ooh. Excellent point. I will be disrespectfully deadnaming Twitter from now on.

Just do what The Register does

Twitter, the social media service now calling itself X,

Tweets are Xcrements

[–] scottywh@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

The only acceptable answer

[–] ultra@feddit.ro 6 points 10 months ago

And tweets are xits

[–] cashews_best_nut@lemmy.world 27 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Xitter. Pronounced shitter.

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Does that make tweets xeets, pronounced shits?

[–] unrelatedkeg@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yes, yes it does. You xit xeets on the xitter.

It's much easier to simply keep calling it Twitter. Further syllables add nothing.

[–] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 21 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Or we can call it by the past tense "Twat".

[–] sentient_loom@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago
[–] KmlSlmk64@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Or you could call it what Linus on Wan show by Linus Tech Tips YT channel made up: ex-Twitter You essentially say both of the names and the fact that Twitter is the "old name". But as a F-u to Musk, we should just call it Twitter.

[–] unrelatedkeg@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 10 months ago (3 children)
[–] Emwe@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Is my brain meant to pronounce this as Shitter?

X-twitter is my personal favorite. Ex-twitter works too.

[–] squiblet@kbin.social 4 points 10 months ago
[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

I've also seen Twixer, which I quite like.

I still just call it Twitter though. Maybe when Musk gets bored someone will buy it and change it back.

I still use the old names; Facebook, Twitter
I don't care if they change their names. Less brain power used to stick to an old name most (still) know.

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 10 months ago

Facebook is still called that. The social media platform, that is; the company that runs it is now called Meta, and it makes sense to distinguish those.

[–] Kraiden@kbin.social 8 points 10 months ago

Twitter, formerly know as successful

[–] DigitalTraveler42@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Just call it Shitter, because that's what it is.

[–] derpgon@programming.dev 5 points 10 months ago

Spelled "Xitter"

[–] xkforce@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

Its literally twitter.com and I despise musk so its called twitter for all of time.

[–] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 10 months ago

I ignore it whenever possible but if I do say anything, it's called Twitter

[–] mawkishdave@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

The dumpster fire formally called Twitter.

[–] NeoNachtwaechter@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Whether you call it Ex-twitter or X-twitter, I don't really care :-)

[–] Masimatutu@mander.xyz 4 points 10 months ago
[–] TheInsane42@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

eXitter seems to be the correct name at the moment.

[–] gilokee@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

x can be pronounced as sh, so...shitter?

Just call it lil musk's ego

[–] ChildEater@iusearchlinux.fyi 3 points 10 months ago

I refuse to call it anything other than twitter.

[–] milkytoast@kbin.social 3 points 10 months ago

its Twitter or shitter to me

[–] LSNLDN@slrpnk.net 3 points 10 months ago
