The Russian Revolution of 1905, also known as the First Russian Revolution, was a wave of mass political and social unrest that spread through vast areas of the Russian Empire. It included labor strikes, peasant unrest, military mutinies, and the formation of grassroots councils (soviets) of people's power. It is widely felt that the 1905 revolution set the stage for the 1917 Russian Revolutions, and for Bolshevism to emerge as a distinct political movement. Lenin later called it "The Great Dress Rehearsal", without which the "victory of the October Revolution in 1917 would have been impossible".

The 1905 revolution was spurred by the Russian defeat in the Russo-Japanese War, which ended in the same year, but also by the growing realization by a variety of sectors of society of the need for reform in the face of agrarian crisis, economic stagnation, and political repression. However, it is generally felt that the detonator of the insurrection were the events of β€œBloody Sunday”, in which a mass demonstration -led by priest and police agent, Georgy Gapon- which had sought to petition the Tsar for relief, was fired upon by the troops, killing hundreds of marchers.

There followed clashes in St. Petersburg, and spreading unrest throughout the rest of the Russian Empire. Strikes spread in three great waves: January, October, and November. In June the crew of the battleship Potemkin famously mutinied against their officers. There were further clashes in St. Petersburg in December.

The rebellion did not overthrow the autocracy, but by late 1905 the Tsar felt obligated by events to agree to constitutional reforms, including the establishment of the State Duma, a multi-party political system, and the Russian Constitution of 1906.

Only 24 hours after reconciliation, there's new right-wing infighting because Meatball Ron threatened to veto a Florida bill that would allow the state to pay for Trump's legal fees, and Trump supporters are pissed. peltier-laugh

My cat is weird and I'm pretty sure way smarter than most cats journal: we got into a pretty fun playtime where my bath tub leads to a long hallway and my cat was seeing how far she could jump from inside the bath tub. I set up obstacles so she could challenge herself and she kept at it. She also hunts toys like solid snake in mgs3 and makes a different approach to each attack to the point she has genuinely outsmarted me and taken me by surprise. She's a tactical genius.

Lol I think Chris posted the wrong version of the new chapo episode. There's a ton of random dead air and people reacting to silence. I guess it's cool to see just how much editing he does but the intermediate version is impossible to listen to lol.

I saw some dumb post abt how Biden and Xi are fated to die together like old soul mates, although I don't see any connection there at all, I think Biden and Putin are connected in the Dreamtime. Biden's befuddlement and reactionary remarks are enjoyed by a certain generally older section of his base & younger hapless idiots in a "he's like my pee paw!! he cannot hack it whatsoever & cannot into computer!! he's terrible yet familiar!!" way. This is true of Putin's deranged redditisms about gay people & upholding arresting celebrities for going to a swingers' party during the war rather than being generally depraved bourgeois like he would if he had a brain. You know?

ventingTraumatic event a week ago just viped my memory of a whole day away and if I brought it up irl, people would think I am whiny or naive for having a relationship with somebody who lives with a demonized disorder. I may have appointments tomorrow but idk where even. My notes are too cryptic to find out.

It’s so fucking ironic how much Amazon would benefit from the US not being built for cars.if they were truly as data obsessed as they claim, they’d lobby for high speed rail train-shining

just remembered diablo 4 exists and I still haven't beaten the first act I think. I really don't like this "it's an open world go do the quests however you want. Also everything scales to you so nothing matters" design

Lol I almost self-immolated myself again, this time by almost knocking over a large metal can that I was burning 99% isopropyl in. The plastic cover of one of these little notebooks I found somewhere had melted to the side of the can and I tried pulling it away, which pulled the can off the little stand I had placed it on for some reason.

I get like 30 bucks off my Internet bill because of the Affordable Connectivity Program but I guess that program is going to end in April because Ukraine and Israel need more bombs or something.

When you find out that Miyazaki made Howl's Moving Castle because he was mad about the Iraq War.

"Actually, [the US] had just started the war against Iraq, and I had a great deal of rage about that. So I felt some hesitation about the award. In fact, I had just started to make "Howl's Moving Castle," so the film is profoundly affected by the war in Iraq."

Holy fuck, how do you Windows programmers cope with the Visual Studio build system? I thought GNU Autotools was bad...

All I wanted to do was build the Source Engine 2013 SDK without downloading all of VS2013 (it needs that version specifically, still better than managing Autotools versions) because the only storage attached to my PC is like a 300gb hard drive I found in the trash. So I installed just the VS2013 build tools (actually the VS2022 build tools first before I found out those aren't compatible or something lol). First, msbuild would just complete successfully without doing anything at all (confusion level: ???) but then I found online somewhere you have to actually open the solution file (extremely corpo name) that Valve's solution file generator thing generates in VS2013 for it to actually do anything (?). That would have been the end of this project because I literally can't afford the storage space for VS rn but thankfully in another post online I found a giant list of repeating text and UUIDs attached to them (??????) that I could append to the solution file to make it actually try to build the code. But now I just keep getting all kinds of error messages that have no meaning to me.

Wtf does error MSB4019: The imported project "C:\Microsoft.Cpp.Default.props" was not found. mean? Apparently something is wrong with the registry settings for msbuild? I have no idea. I would write a Windows-hating screed here but I think I'm just gonna go to bed for now.

I really love that the Illusive Man moves his base to a different star depending on what you do during the ending

obv it's there to reflect the "type" of ending i.e. blue star for paragon and red star for renegade but it's such a funny idea to me that he just has like a specific star for the mood he's in

like things didn't work out for him? he goes over to blue star cause it's where he goes when he feels sad. things go well? let's go to party star!!!
