Rosa Parks, born on the 4th of February in 1913, was an American activist in the civil rights movement best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. U.S. Congress has called her "the first lady of civil rights" and "the mother of the freedom movement".

Parks was not the first person to resist bus segregation in Montgomery, but the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) believed that she was the best candidate for seeing through a court challenge after her 1955 arrest for refusing to give up her bus seat for a white person.

According to historian Dr. Casey Nichols, following this arrest, Parks immediately contacted local NAACP president E.D. Nixon and informed him of her arrest. Within hours, the Women’s Political Council (WPC), formed in 1946 to address the grievances of black bus patrons in Montgomery, sprang into action, printing flyers, phoning potential supporters, and organizing carpools.

The boycott succeeded in 1957 after the Supreme Court declared bus segregation unconstitutional. Parks' act of defiance and the Montgomery bus boycott became important symbols of the movement, and she became an international icon of resistance to racial segregation.

After the boycott's conclusion, Parks moved to Detroit, Michigan and began working as an assistant to Detroit Congressman John Conyers. She has received numerous honors, including over 40 honorary degrees, the Medal of Freedom, the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor, and two NAACP image awards. In 2002, Parks produced a biographical film titled “The Rosa Parks Story.”

"The only tired I was was tired of giving in."

Eating slices of avocado and referring to them as avocado sashimi.

Cucumbers are cucumber sashimi

Rewatching the Avatar series for some much-needed escapism. I'm also determined to meet up with a career advisor about grad school. If porky-happy wants me to have a master's in a STEM field so badly before I am bestowed the rare gift on an income, then he'll get one.

I need a game that's interesting, something I haven't seen before that I can't figure out within an hour of playing, either because it's mysterious or because it's just very out there

I just wanna play a game like Outer Wilds again but there's only one of those sadness

Last game I found truly interesting was Coffin of Andy and Leyley because it's both mysterious and obviously unhinged. Tried playing Persona 5 and got bored, tried playing Horizon Zero Dawn and got bored, I just want something new and interesting ;-;

Edit: Or something like the original Bioshock. That was interesting.

I got bored with Control, Baldur's Gate 3 and Fallout New Vegas too, even though I recognize that they're good. Ugh.

I'm making "cuban spiced pork loin" tomorrow and i feel like I should make a sauce to go with it. What sauce? Some kinda green mojo?

Reading about mojo it seems like the chimichurri i have been making is basically a green mojo but with parsley and red wine vinegar. Should I basically make that but with lime and orange juice, no vinegar?

Is there a term for coming into a system ready to make a change and getting “engulfed by the machine?”

I think most boomers would call it “growing up” but curious if there are other words

I kind of hate being in that in-between of like, wanting to like reach out to talk about something on my mind, but then at the same time, not wanting to feel like a burden, and then just keeping it to myself

I forgot to mention, I’m also mentioning one of their friends (the one I call their platonic boyfriend as a joke, who’s been their on and off “roommate” for 7 years) as a kind of response to their freaking out over me saying I was jealous of him (which wasn’t meant sincerely); they thought, for some fucking reason, that I thought they were dating. I said I was “jealous” of him because he lives next door to them (in a tent next to their bus, though he might still be in an apartment), and they’ve known eachother for 7 years, and they see movies together or have dinner or go to Lowe’s every day, and they fucking talk about them all the time. Literally he’s their platonic boyfriend lol. I don’t have any ill feelings towards him but sometimes it feels like, God damnit, if I had a time machine I’d go back to the time and place they met and just casually shove him outta the way, y’know? (Not really.)

Like for real, here’s my dream person, and here’s someone who has my dream relationship with my dream person (I don’t want to date them, really). And I just showed up too late. Almost makes me want to Joker laugh.

The Engineer is a soft-spoken, amiable Texan from Bee Cave, Texas, USA with an interest in all mechanical things. He specializes in constructing and maintaining Buildings that provide support to his team, rather than fighting at the front lines, making him the most suitable for defense. The Engineer's various gadgets include the Sentry Gun, an automated turret that fires at any enemy in range, the Dispenser, a device that restores the health and ammunition of nearby teammates, and Teleporters that quickly transport players from point A to point B.

Because the Engineer's ingenious devices are under constant threat from explosives and devious enemy Spies, a good Engineer must keep his gear under a watchful eye and under repair with his Wrench at all times. When the Engineer needs to get his hands dirty, his trio of generic yet capable weapons, along with the assistance of his helpful hardware, make him more than capable of holding his own in a fight. If need be, the Engineer can even pick up and haul constructed buildings to redeploy them in more favorable locations. While usually viewed as a defensive class, the Engineer has a selection of high-tech weapons that allow him to destroy projectiles or to build faster-deploying, less damaging Sentry Guns, which give him great utility at the front lines too. His Teleporters are also a key point to both the offensive and defensive team's success, allowing slower, heavier classes to reach the front-lines quicker.

OKay made a breakthrough with my heel down technique on my left foot.

So 1) All heel down strokes begin with a prep motion. Every subsequent stroke must return to that prepped height.

  1. Do not try to bounce the pedal, you need to make contact with pad/drumhead every single time.

I was stuck at 67BPM, barely able to keep a steady bar of 16ths, these changes made it so I can cruise through five minutes of 16th notes at 70BPM.

The quads, hip flexors, none of that should activate. Calf muscle is okay, none of the foot tensors should activate either. The shin muscle will activate but after a long enough time it'll activate less and less.

Kafka discourse going on right now makes me think people either didn't pay attention in English class or didn't have a good English teacher like me.

The restaurant I'm at played The World at Large by Modest mouse, without transitioning into Float On. Strange choice already, but then Float On played separately after like five more songs, which was even more confusing.

@Pluto@hexbear.net thanks for checking in a few days ago. Struggling with getting myself to some important work and wondering if anyone here has any tips & tricks for getting yourself to do some otherwise not-difficult report writing that I think i've trained my brain to complusively avoid doing from pushing through burnout too much.

[–] Pluto@hexbear.net 8 points 9 months ago

Yeah, I'm dealing with both university work and internship work so I get that.

Compulsively pushing through burnout all the time is so real.
