I'm ashamed to say I've never watched Star Trek but I intend to do so at some point. He was the captain in The Next Jeaneration, right?

[–] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 34 points 8 months ago (3 children)

You're on the internet. You're on Lemmy. And you never seen Star Trek?

Good Lord.

You thought we didn't get the reference, didn't you?

Acting.

[–] rbos@lemmy.ca 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Oblivious, oblivious, oblivious, I GET THE JOKE, oblivious, oblivious...

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 2 points 8 months ago

Hmm…it's a different actor in a different scene, but the reference checks out.

There's too much content! I have seen Babylon 5... wait that probably hurts my case..

[–] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (7 children)

Honestly I can understand that. It's pretty overwhelming. Personally, if I were you, I would start with TNG and see how you like it. But... Give it two seasons. There's some gold in the first season but at the same time from absolutely horrible shit, including one of only two episodes that I can't rewatch when I burn through the series again.

But then it really takes off in season 2. Hell that one has measure of a man which is not only one of the best episodes of Star Trek it's one of the best episodes of anything I've ever seen.

[–] Betch@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I was actually gonna start with TNG. I know I'm absolutely gonna be obsessing over it for the rest of my life once I do. It is 100% my kind of show I already know it.

The saying goes, start when Riker gets his beard which is season 2.

Season 1 might put you off and you can come back to it.

If you want to start in season 1, and decide to bail, just jump to season 2.

If you enjoy 2 you could always go back and catch up on 1

Is it even legal to be on Lemmy without watching Star Trek?

[–] Betch@lemmy.world 13 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I really don't know. Probably not? I know when I went to college I almost got kicked out for not having seen Star Wars. I was able to stay by bingewatching all 6 episodes and passing a quiz.

[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 6 points 8 months ago

Jivy league schools are rough like that

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Don't know about legality, but it is most illogical.

Oh it gets better: he's got a Knighhood (so, Sir Patric Stewart) and started as a Shakespearean actor, who are quite the pretentious clique within British Theatre.

I like to think that his time doing relaxed Sci-Fi for the masses in the US made him a more well rounded human being.
