Did they ever unshittify this game? I remember that everyone was really big mad when it came out.

I know they gave in and added NPCs and story quests, as well as a lot of expansions, but I haven't played it so I don't know if it's actually good.

If you are a huge Fallout fan, it's pretty fun. It's a bit of a mixed bag though. The story and quests aren't as cohesive as the other entries. In some ways it feels better than FO4 and in others it feels worse.

now when you say "fallout fan" do you mean NMA geezers, new vegas enjoyers, or todd howard fluffers?

may play it, tbh

Fallout 76 even right at launch wasn't really a "shittier" game than either of the two previous Bethesda Fallouts, it was just a more honest game that dropped the pretense of being an RPG with a story to just be a loot shooter where you can show off all your loot to other players. In addition it is of course also a predatory live service game that locks unlimited storage (something you really want in a game that is 100% about loot) behind a 10 dollar a month subscription.

It does have easily the prettiest and most varied map of any Bethesda game tho.

Oh shit maybe I should check this out

[–] JohnBrownNote@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

don't do that, it's a dogshit mmo trap.

[–] marx_mentat@hexbear.net 2 points 6 months ago

Oh right I forgot I played it briefly. I definitely don't have time for that.

I've an itch to play fallout since the show dropped. I want to play Fallout 2 but I don't want to spend a hundred hours on it.

[–] Pluto@hexbear.net 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Same, tbh.

I want to play Fallout and Fallout 2 as well.

It's been years, but according to Steam I put 22 hours into Fallout, which was enough to beat the game. I never got around to Fallout 2 though, so I can't speak to how long it takes, other than having heard it's a much larger game

Fallout 2 has a few heaps more side content and replay value. You can also continue playing even after the main quest until that arbitrary 13 in-game year timer goes off. That said, I wouldn't say it goes much beyond... 35+ hours if you want to soak it up?
