I'm just now finishing the first campaign of Elden Ring (I'm at the Altus Plateau) and then they drop this DLC expansion. Just my luck... But yeah, what do you all think?

Spoilers are allowed, btw.

Should be arriving at around June 20th to June 21st world-wide, correct me if I'm wrong.

I got the base game at launch and took about a moth to beat it. Didn't start a NG+ so I may be able to use my original character, but I also created a new one just in case. Haven't really played much though so I'm probably not going to be ready for SotE when it launches.

I think it's described as "essentially a sequel."

Well, whatever that means.

I haven't played since August of last year (Remnant 2 came out and took up my Souls-style game slot)

Just going to start up a new character, get back in the groove and then do the DLC

Fuck, I have to get on Remnant 2, but I'm too busy with Fallout 76 and finishing up, well, Elden Ring.

Remnant 2 is so good

Best soulslike game that isn't from FromSoft in my opinion

It's actually got my partner interested in Bloodborne and from there, I can probably get them into Dark Souls

"Best soulslike game that isn't from FromSoft in my opinion"

That's... actually saying something, ngl. Like, them's fighting words. Now you've got me interested, no doubt. And yeah, if it got your partner interested in Bloodborne and possibly Dark Souls thereafter then that's also fighting words.

Thanks for the "sell" (genuinely). I might get it now.

kinda wish the dlc was completely separate from the main game. the best part of these games is when you start out fresh and every weapon and item you find is exciting and useful. like what good is any weapon i find in the dlc going to be when i already have a +10 moonveil?

I think it's sort-of for older players, but yeah, starting out and then growing from there is strangely fun.

I started a new character (mostly because I no longer have a working PC, so I had to switch to playing on my roommate's PS5) and am about 40 hours in now. I know I should be trying to actually advance, but I can't stop myself from puttering around the open world.

I did, for once, decide to restrain myself and only level my main stats (Strength, Vigor, Endurance) instead of branching out into a little bit of everything to hit stat requirements for spells and weapons just to try them out. Either I suddenly got a lot better than I remembered being, or leveling sensibly makes the game like 10x easier.

One problem I'm anticipating for the DLC: I've already settled into an aesthetic I like, with lightly-armored sellsword vibes (bastard sword, Vulgar Militia armor, bandit boots, bandit manchettes). So there is a good chance that I pick up all the new DLC items, go "oh that's neat, but not for this character" and then never give them a decent shot. :P

Edit: Holy shit Starscourge Radahn is, like, a real boss? The first time I played I killed him on my second try and I didn't really understand what all the fuss was about. I spent the entire rest of the game making fun of him by pointing out enemies that are "literally stronger than Radahn." But, uh, now he's kicking my teeth in and it turns out I didn't learn the fight at all. Did his hitboxes used to be bugged or something? I seem to recall that I previously killed him just by hugging his feet and mashing R1 while all his attacks missed me, but that is not currently happening, LMAO.

Would you say the experience is significantly better on PC vs PS5? I've been really wanting to play Elden Ring after finally playing Bloodborne a few months ago, but I only have a PS4. I've been holding off with the hope that at some point in the distant future I'll have a PC capable of running games like this, or less likely, a PS5 if I luck into one on absurd sale.

The experience is very similar, overall. The most noticeable difference is that the textures for overlays like blood spatter are very low res on PS5 in performance mode. Not sure what quality mode looks like, I tend to leave everything on performance out of habit.

There was like, a month where Radahn was accidentally nerfed between patches. I've never been brave enough to fight him up close. That's what all my buddies are for. It's the Radahn Festival not the Radahn Festivme.

Welp, time to learn the real version of the fight!

Edit: Got him!
