Somebody whose job or context prevents them from saying what they really think (something along the lines of "that person is a fucking moron")

[-] esty@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 months ago

Finally, the right answer

Though to be fair I don't know if the age brackets of using that phrase quite line up with the one of this platforms userbase, so I think it tracks

Republican politicians making excuses for Trump

As a Large Lemmy Model, what comes to mind is a dialectical materialist who’s had enough of some idealist’s nonsense.

I got a question below...

QuestionIf the former refers to me as such, does that mean they want to kill me on twitter? 😉

[-] frauddogg@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 4 months ago

Probably. At the very least a maiming. 😉

Monty Python.
I can't believe people have semi serious responses to such an absurd turn of phrase. Spike Milligan would also be a reasonable response.

I don't know, maybe they responded during work.... or have met someone of that description...

That they're a condescending and unpleasant person.

[-] CorrodedCranium@leminal.space 2 points 4 months ago

Kind of similar in the unpleasant aspect but I'd say someone who doesn't know when to stop and take things seriously.

Some politician or political commentator spouting obvious lies, platitudes, and other garbage. News media ignoring real issues to focus on clicks.

I think of someone describing weird movies like Evil Bong or Pink Flamingos. Not much out there can get less serious.

I judge the person as impressionable and living in a world of their own. Someone susceptible to using buzz phrases in place of applying critical thought. Easily propagandised people.

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I judge the person as impressionable and leaving in a kind of their own.

I think the second half of this sentence is in need of an editor. “Living in a mind of their own,” you maybe meant? idk

[-] LarkinDePark@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 4 months ago

Yeah I should proofread more on mobile.

[-] KittenBiscuits@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

"living in their own world" is a common turn of phrase

[-] drd@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago

The first time I saw this term used was on twitter, from a somewhat funny twitter troll.

[-] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 2 points 4 months ago

Donald Trump?

The person using it desperately wants to be seen as serious and/or jacks off to PMC aesthetics

[-] Thavron@lemmy.ca -1 points 4 months ago

That they have a limited vocabulary.
