Really I think the only reason he quit the race at all was because they were threatening to use article 25-4 to kick him out of power if he didn't step down from the race. He gets to be president for another 6 months as a consolation prize because they managed to convince him that he wouldn't win another 4 years.

I kinda think Biden/DNC is just letting Genocide Joe stay to drag down Kamala. Obviously she can do that on her own well enough, but while he remains there people like Kirby also remain. Kamala could get rid of Kirby for remarks like he made yesterday (not saying she would, but she could). But with Biden, who apparently fully agrees with the liquid shit dribbling from Kirby's mouth, all these absolute demons that caused the resentment of Biden's entire administration will remain and put a cap on Kamala. Maybe some people are deluded into thinking she will clean out the worst actors like Kirby, but her pro-genocide speech the other day indicates that no, no she won't be doing that. Or they'll be replaced with equally evil people.

Not willingly no. Plus strategically the DNC want Kamala to be able to act as a foil. Everything bad that happens is Biden's fault and she'll fix it as President (she won't actually fix it as president,) but everything good that happens is Kamala demonstrating her soft power and leadership.

According to https://bipartisanpolicy.org/explainer/25th-amendment-frequently-asked-questions/:

Section 2 of the 25th Amendment requires that if the office of the vice president becomes vacant, the president nominates a new vice president who must then be confirmed by a majority vote of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. This provision ensures that the office of the vice president is never left unoccupied for long.

But if the House or Senate delay or refuse to confirm the VP selection, it effectively means the Speaker of the House is next in line. Which means if anything was to happen to President Harris, we would be dealing with President Mike Johnson.

And before you think surely, nothing would delay that approval, recall that the Senate Majority Leader held up a Supreme Court vacancy from coming up for a vote for nearly a year until the President of his own party was in power.
