Isn't The Movies abandonware now, which means it's actually legal to download for free?
The page 'myabandonware.com' only lists legal to download for free games and it's on there, so no need to sweat about "totally legit copies". https://www.myabandonware.com/game/the-movies-bcv
Also the comments usually have some solutions to compatibility problems.
For some reason most of my movies in The Movies involved someone kicking a robot in the 
and then the robot getting revenge by killing the kicker.
