Clipped ear = feral cat that was captured and sterilyzed. But seems super friendly for a feral.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 43 points 1 month ago

The cat is very clean, though you're right.

might have been an adopted feral?

If OP wants to take it in, get it to a vet and scan for chips. (they may also a free check up/vaccinations.)

We think she belongs to the house behind us, so I'm gonna put a collar on her with a note tomorrow and see if we get confirmation.

[-] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 1 month ago

This is the way. We had what we suspected was a neighbor's cat that used to come visit. She didn't have a collar, so we bought one and attached a little metal keychain pill holder so we could pass notes to them. It was fun and we got to meet a new neighbor.

Yeah I'm secretly hoping for a fun new game to emerge from this. Idk what the rules are yet, but I'm excited to find out.

Somebody just invented the next hallmark movie plotline :)

Though... it does sound like fun. make sure to encode secret messages into portions of the messages. "If you're reading this you must be very bored" or something.

…and it will take place during Christmas time.

Make sure you get a breakaway collar or it could strangle the cat if it gets caught on something.

[-] VelvetStorm@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Good luck on that. Make sure it's a break away one.

[-] Lennnny@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

It's actually a breakaway bowtie (for cats). What's the point in money if you can't spend it on the neighborhood strays 🤣

The cheaper (or often free) cat sterilization clinics near me clip ears instead of tattoo even if the animal is owned and indoor only.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

that sounds barbaric. I get clipping on ferrals, but if there's an owner.... why take the effort?

[-] FoxyFerengi@lemm.ee 5 points 1 month ago

I'm assuming it's because most people do not keep their cats indoors here. This is a very agricultural area. So quite a lot of cats are shop/barn cats. The cat I adopted in this state is actually tattooed, but I adopted him from a shelter a little over 200 miles away and things start becoming much more urban the further in that direction you go from my "city".

[-] Lennnny@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I think (without any research, just from vague memory) the ear clipping isn't actually all that painful to the cat, and the benefits of an immediate visual identifier outweigh it. I wouldn't even know where to look for a cat tat.

[-] CmdrShepard42@lemm.ee 10 points 1 month ago

There's no way that sparkling white cat is feral.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Feral when the ear was clipped at least.

[-] Jikiya@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

My family also ended up with a clipped ear cat. She came up to us one night, and was friendly, then for the next two weeks she showed up everyday we got home from work. So, now she's our inside cat, and we all love her, she is so friendly to everyone. Even followed an AC tech around the house trying to get love from him too. One of the best cats I've ever had.

[-] TipRing@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

A couple of my ferals are friendly like this and I get them flea prevention when they climb in my lap.

[-] Empricorn@feddit.nl 7 points 1 month ago

You've never just taken a neat chomp out of a friendly cat's ear?

[-] RagingSnarkasm@lemmy.world 44 points 1 month ago

Congrats on your new cat.

[-] orcrist@lemm.ee 44 points 1 month ago

This was your deck. Now it's your new cat's deck.

[-] Computerchairgeneral@fedia.io 39 points 1 month ago

Pretty sure that is your cat now. Sorry, we don't make the rules, the cats do.

[-] PrimarilyPrimate@lemmy.world 33 points 1 month ago

Just think about being that cat. Wander around a neighborhood and see a person on their deck sitting in a chair, go over and lay on their belly.

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 23 points 1 month ago

Humana do not own cats.

Cats own humans and this one has chosen you.

[-] TheBat@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Likely the cat has already chosen 3 other houses too. OP is just the latest mark.

[-] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 month ago

I'm very glad, I don't think an insurance company is a responsible home for kitties

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago

looks like they're applying for the position tho...

[-] veniasilente@lemm.ee 11 points 1 month ago

It is now o3o

[-] NoIWontPickAName@kbin.earth 10 points 1 month ago

No, it wasn’t your cat before

[-] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Correction: it used to be your deck and you are now property of the cat.

[-] polite_cat@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I didn't look what community this was and was wondering where the steam deck is lol

Actually I found out yesterday she nurses. She climbed into my arms and started sucking on my shirt.

[-] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 2 points 1 month ago

I was actually just trying to make a peter sellers joke
