I wanted to gauge the level of interest before I pull the trigger and create a community around video game modding. It's something I could easily post consistently about but ideally I'd like others to engage with it as well so it doesn't feel like I'm posting into the void.

A few communities already exist that are somewhat similar to this like !skyrimmods@lemmy.world, !totkmods@lemmy.world, !themoddingofisaac@sh.itjust.works, and !360hacks@lemmy.ml. I don't know if people would prefer to use game and platform specific communities to talk about modding when they can.

I'd like to keep things platform agnostic because things can get muddy quickly with things like source ports and emulation.

I’d be down for a general modding community. In the past I’ve seen people put the game their modding in brackets in the title when needed support but a general modding community would be able to provide general advice rather than game specific stuff

I like to mod games, mostly Skyrim as of right now, also mod palworld (learned the hard way to turn on the adult filter on nexus), blade and sorcery is a fun one now that the final major update is out so you’ve got my vote

I say if you've got quality post and are willing to mod go for it.

I'm game. *ba dum tss*

Seriously. I don't post often but if there's interesting content about modding the games that I like (RimWorld, Factorio, ONI, Stardew Valley, stuff like this), I'd be happy commenting there.

Yes! Open source jibes well with mods!

My reference points for modding, Skyrim and Cyberpunk, both seem to produce sufficient content that having separate communities would seem to work better. A shared community risks building a high noise to signal ration for any particular subscriber

I think I created one over a year ago, but never got around to actually get it started. I don't have the energy to keep subs alive. So yes, I'd like to see that.

Modding as in installing mods or making mods? I'm down for both tbh.
