I used to direct dial my friends for 1v1 games of StarCraft. What a time to be alive. Running through the house shouting "DONT PICK UP THE PHONE!!" only for someone to pick it up anyway.

same here with warcraft 2. Chatting in early RTS/MechWarrior games online is how I learned to type fast haha

If you're looking for a modern RTS check out Beyond All Reason. Its an open source spiritual successor to Total Annihilation with the best RTS controls I've ever seen

in beyond all reason bases and economy buildings are more vulnerable to chain reaction explosions, unit positioning and micro matters more because you get increased damage when units are attacking from different directions, unit commands are wayyyy more in depth, turtleing with static defensive buildings is less effective
