The only message that matters right now.

I'm not American and I cannot vote for an American President. If you're American and have not yet voted, please do so as soon as possible. If you have voted, thank you for your service 🫡

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

And then worry.

[–] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 43 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Non-American, though (rightfully) heavily invested in this election.

Since I’m an otherwise powerless observer, we took our family to Tokyo Disneyland to help and distract us until the results are in.

Really feels like a surreal Last Supper moment, NGL.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

That's going to be a long trip, results probably won't be fully tallied for a week at best.

[–] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 months ago

It’s a week in Japan in total, then a couple more weeks travelling Asia. Trying to cram in as many distractions as possible

Do you know what day it is?

Remember, remember this 5th of November, The Jan 6 treason and plot. I know of no reason the Jan 6 treason, Should ever be forgot.

Yeah— I’m going to curl up and watch V for Vendetta..

Watch MSNBC, take a drink every time they throw to Steve Kornacki.

Wake up from your coma in 2025. ;)

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I love you and I hate you. How dare you tell the world what I'm doing!

[–] Mercuri@lemmy.world 29 points 2 months ago

Let's go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this to all blow over

[–] HelixDab2@lemm.ee 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Unless either candidate OVERWHELMINGLY wins, there's not going to be anything tonight, and probably not tomorrow. The last of the swing states won't close polls until 8p (Mountain time, I think). Trump is almost certainly going to declare that he is the winner "by a lot". Best case, we'll know tomorrow morning.

So take a couple alprazolam, drink a couple shots, and black out until tomorrow.

[–] cultsuperstar@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Plus, it could take a week for Arizona to count their votes.

[–] Rolando@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

The election day ground game is crucial! Don't waste your time just worrying. If you're in the US, look here: https://events.democrats.org/ It's not too late!

Third button: weed or alcohol so you don't have to think about anything for a couple days!

As you watch the results remember the "red mirage" - a well known phenomenon where Republican candidates take an early lead because Republican votes get reported early. This is simply because Republicans tend to live in smaller towns and low-population areas, which finish their vote counting sooner because there are fewer ballots. Democrats tend to live in denser urban areas that take longer to count, so their votes show up later; this is known as the "blue shift".

You can see the red mirage happening right now... 45 minutes ago Trump had 23 electoral votes and Harris 7. Now it's Trump 95 Harris 35. This should even out as the counts from the cities start to roll in.

Trump is planning to declare victory early in the night before the blue shift occurs, so his followers can turn off the TV and go to bed happy. Then when the final count shows Harris on top they will "know" the election was stolen because in their minds they "saw" him win.

We’re on a Disney movie marathon. First was The Great Mouse Detective and we just finished The Sword in the Stone. What should we watch next?

[–] 0ops@lemm.ee 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Robin hood, then emperor's new groove

The Black Cauldron

I'm fortunate that I'm out of town on a work trip so I won't have the energy to worry.

I feel bad for my wife who is at home deep in the red.

[–] rhacer@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Or, as it is the Fifth of November, watch V for Vendetta.

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 months ago

Then bomb Congress!

No wait.

You could always leave it all behind a come to Japan.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I’ve heard Southern Japan is basically depopulated and a tropical paradise. Is that true?

[–] parpol@programming.dev 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

By southern do you mean Kyushu and shikoku? I haven't been to Shikoku but it does look like a Paradise from when Degawa and other celebrities went there on TV.

Kyushu is also pretty tropical, but more populated, and has more tourist attractions, thus more tourists.

Both are beautiful. I haven't been all over, but Shikoku looks more tropical than Kyushu.

Unfortunately they also are where most of the summer typhoons wreck havoc, landslides destroy the most property and bury the most people. Most of japan besides Kanto, Hokkaido and touhoku are pretty tropical so for example if you move to areas around Kanazawa you can get most of the Paradise with less natural disasters. If it is just for a visit, however, Kyushu is amazing. Kumamoto, Beppu, Fukuoka are beautiful in their own unique ways.

[–] Rolando@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (7 children)

It was kind of funny to watch Hanzawa Naoki, and they'd be like: "As punishment, we're transferring you to this city outside of Tokyo!" And they'd be like: omgz a fate worse than death. And I'd look up the city and it'd be a place with great public transportation, a famous temple, and amazing local cuisine.

That's an impractical joke answer to a lot since they're strict about outsiders but it's a genuine possibility for my Japanese wife and I.

I guess I best apologize to Duolingo and get back to practicing my 日本語...
