Idk if this belongs here but I saw this thumbnail and thought it was slop-worthy

I didn't click the video because I don't want that poisoning my feed, but I checked his channel and he's just another chud but with a focus on whinging about open source. I guess there's a niche for everything.

Here's the link if you want brainrot I guess.

Shitting his pants

Lunduke absolutely malding over the fact that the Linux mascot is a trans foxgirl.

But the penguin tho..

[–] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 11 points 18 hours ago

Oh did he actually do that one? I might watch that

[–] Saoirse@hexbear.net 33 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

it's actually Debian, The Operating System For Lesbians.

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 14 points 18 hours ago

It just occurred to me how blatant the bait was and he just took it. What a goofball.

[–] glans@hexbear.net 18 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

OMG someone posted a link to a vid of this guy to a forum I am on and it made me so fucking mad I started writing a response and deleted it like 8 times I probably wrote 5000 words but eventually posted nothing because I couldn't contain myself and kept sounding totally wacko.

off my memory:

  • he doesn't like how gnome hired a silly silly silly woman to be the ceo.

  • he showed a chart about how pronouns are stealing all the funding from linux. (literally. the concept of pronouns.)

  • he claimed that no press except "the lundbeck institute" was covering the biggest linux story of the century (according to him) due to woke media blackout. of course by using search query like anti white racism IT lawsuit or something it took me less than 10 seconds to find other press coverage of the same story with many details he did not present such as the involvement of dark money. which actually was an interesting story in some ways, but not the ways he was thinking.

  • basically this is a man who is completely terrified of the prospect that he might be required to work in a collegial fashion with people who are not exactly like him.

  • also he really misses the old days when linux torvalds was likely to go off at random people on mailing lists; he thinks any restraint by torvalds on this is like a knife in the back of linux.

what a fucking loser.

[–] Enjoyer_of_Games@hexbear.net 13 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

normally the press won't shut up about linux so the silence here is deafening

[–] glans@hexbear.net 14 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

ya every day when the New York Times gets delivered to my doorstep I read it over my morning coffee in a very cute mug and croissant. they are always going on about threading race conditions in the latest kernel. and so many op eds about whether rust is really a safe language or not. but what do you expect when the editors are totally in the pocket of kkkde.

won't the press get off its high horse and cover apple for once?

How can an open source developer be DEI, they aren't an employee and they weren't hired by anyone lmao.

(Please correct me if that's wrong. But IFAIK Linus distros aren't made by businesses, yeah?)

[–] dannoffs@hexbear.net 13 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

A lot of them are made by businesses. Elementary OS is developed and maintained by Elementary inc. Ubuntu is made by Canonical, Fedora CentOS, and RedHat are owned by IBM, etc.

A project being open source doesn't necessarily mean anything about how it's developed, just how it's licensed.

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 8 points 18 hours ago

Thanks, I didn't know that

(Please correct me if that's wrong. But IFAIK Linus distros aren't made by businesses, yeah?)

There are several (most of the "popular") distros which are primarily developed by various forms of corporate structure. Fedhat Linux is probably the best known example.

It's still foolish because as a rule these huge projects are meritocratic by nature where they're open to outside contribution. Though there is a lot of politicking and other fuckery in various decision making processes. Still, nobody was ever forced to merge a pull request because the submitter was a black woman.

There have been big dummy-spits around certain things like renaming the once common master/slave terminology for certain types of software and hardware architecture stuff. There is almost certainly a tiny activist contingent who focus on this stuff and don't otherwise contribute to the projects they critique, but I'm verging on gamergate-brain level thinking even suggesting this, because it doesn't matter and they're usually correct.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 15 points 19 hours ago

Well, reactionaries aren't exactly smart shrug-outta-hecks

[–] RainbowReflection@hexbear.net 17 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (2 children)

I haven't even heard about elementary OS until now. Also, the thumbnail misspells Danielle, so I looked up her name and it turns out she's trans, and now it seems like the misspelling of her name was intentional sadness

~~Edit: another user said this already, but you should probably CW this for transphobia, some of the comments under the video are really unhinged~~

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 12 points 19 hours ago

Yep sorry, I didn't even notice. Marked it nsfw too to blur it doggirl-thumbsup

[–] roux@hexbear.net 7 points 18 hours ago

I watched the first 5 or so minutes and he consistently misgenders her.

[–] dannoffs@hexbear.net 26 points 23 hours ago (4 children)

He's one of the OG linux content creators, famous for "the linux action show" and his yearly "why linux sucks" talks, and was always a little "edgy" but he started courting a right wing audience around 2016 and has been spiraling ever since.

[–] Subdivide6857@midwest.social 1 points 7 hours ago

I was so disappointed to discover he was infected by the social disease.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 14 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Had no idea. Really cringe. I guess it must make good money being an outrage farm.

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 5 points 20 hours ago

Always does

[–] Palacegalleryratio@hexbear.net 11 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (2 children)

Yeah back in the day I used to quite like him, but a few years back he fell off reality. [edit: best part of a decade back! Time really does fly hu?] Gotta wonder what makes people do that.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Gotta wonder what makes people do that

Engagement = money, I'd bet

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 5 points 18 hours ago

Yeah and I think parasocial content creator stuff is (or can be) a bidirectional relationship. At the very least I'm sure it feels good to have thousands of people affirm your ideas, especially if your ideas are stupid and alienate the people in your real life.

[–] dannoffs@hexbear.net 7 points 22 hours ago

Yeah, I listened to him starting around like Linux Action Show episode 2. It's crazy that that's almost 20 years ago now.

[–] Enjoyer_of_Games@hexbear.net 5 points 19 hours ago

Linux sucks was a good talk, then he simply remade the thing that got views over and over instead of doing something new. He was doing the outrage channel formula even then.

[–] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 13 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I stopped watching him around the time he was mocking GNU’s “no hugs” policy. I take it I missed a lot of insufferable commentary about how woke the Rust Foundation is. I really liked his stuff for a long time, too. It’s a shame. Nowadays I’d literally rather listen The Primeagen talk about geopolitics in the middle of another rant about JavaScript exceptions.

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 4 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

The Primeagen talk about geopolitics in the middle of another rant about JavaScript exceptions.

Sounds fun. Thanks for the recc.

[–] Imnecomrade@hexbear.net 3 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

The Primeagen is a liberal techbro. Rather in this case is said in the fashion of getting a root canal instead of something much more painful.

[–] beef_curds@hexbear.net 20 points 22 hours ago

I use DEIbian. It's more stable.

[–] Palacegalleryratio@hexbear.net 16 points 22 hours ago

Good for Elementary. I hope they get some lasting positive attention / support as a silver lining from any backlash they get from this from the hate hog tourists.

I haven’t got that much interest in using ElementaryOS myself these days, as I don’t think they have the resources to keep up with the big players (and I’m not their target audience). But I really appreciate their past efforts in making Linux more attractive, simpler and more fully featured for gui only users. A lot of what they ancomplished and pioneered has either been up streamed or widely copied and I think it’s made the whole of Linux better for it. I am a fan of theirs and hope the project has good days ahead of it.

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 18 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Full support for exploiting the chud outrage machine for free marketing

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 14 points 21 hours ago

It works. I didn't even know elementary was a thing, and now I want to try it out.

[–] radio_free_asgarthr@hexbear.net 16 points 23 hours ago

I forgot about this guy for so many years. I listened to some of his content over a decade ago when I was first getting into linux, but stopped long before I heard he started taking a libertarian/CHUD turn.

[–] someone@hexbear.net 18 points 20 hours ago

Diversity, equity, and inclusion. Basically it's an organizational concept about cracking down on sexism, racism, ableism, ageism, homophobia, transphobia, and other such bigotries. Like all such concepts, effectiveness varies depending on implementation.

You can see immediately why the chuds are livid about it. They're throwing their usual temper tantrum about not being the centre of the universe anymore.

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 16 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

"diversity, equity and inclusion"

HR buzzword that chuds consider synonymous with woke (they aren't exactly wrong but I'm not going to give them any credit)

[–] OrionsMask@hexbear.net 8 points 19 hours ago

Let's not fail to mention the pivotal point that the likes of DEI policies are only needed because when you leave male crackers in charge of hiring and promoting without any kind of course correction, they are only capable of hiring and promoting other male crackers.

And it makes sense that male crackers are mad about that, because their privilege of being fast tracked to the front of the line by the single virtue of being a male cracker is at risk.

[–] Tomorrow_Farewell@hexbear.net 9 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

The new version of 'SJW'.

Also, it's rather silly how they obviously try to pretend that measures like trying to hire more marginalised people somehow means that better candidates aren't hired when we know that what happens otherwise is that the better candidates from the pools of marginalised groups aren't hired.

[–] falgscode@hexbear.net 8 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

maybe CW the post for transphobia?

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 7 points 19 hours ago

Oh sorry I'll do that shortly
