Summary

Musk is trying to backtrack on his previous demands to shut down the government.

Elon Musk initially supported a government shutdown, criticizing Republicans who backed a continuing resolution and calling for no new bills until Donald Trump retakes office.

His posts on X encouraged GOP hardliners and contributed to chaos in Congress.

After a bipartisan spending bill failed to pass, Musk blamed Democrats, ignoring that 38 Republicans also voted against it.

Facing backlash for his earlier remarks, Musk is now deflecting responsibility as House Speaker Mike Johnson struggles to avoid a shutdown.

I'm fucking mad about them cutting PBM reform and I hope other people are too.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 8 points 7 hours ago

I bet that guy has trouble wiping his own ass.

[–] blazeknave@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Deport illegals, send his ass back where he came from

[–] Will8250@lemmings.world 7 points 8 hours ago

Though I don't like Musk, I think deporting all illegals would be damaging to our society and economy.

Republicans: Have a majority in the House

House spending bill: Fails to pass

How could Democrats do this??

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 65 points 1 day ago (2 children)

See I'm not saying nothing horrible is gonna happen.

I just saying Im not as scared as the doomers.

They're all so fucking hungry for power they're gonna eat each other before we have to worry about eating the rich.

Fingers crossed.

[–] Infynis@midwest.social 52 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Musk has been positioning himself pretty well to be a single big bad. I'm hoping he can cause enough fracturing and dysfunction to kill Project 2025

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 13 points 21 hours ago

He is an insufferable weakling who is probably gonna be a focal point of hate within the Republican party. Also he is a South African, regardless of all other factors he is a foreigner and I hope he gets the Mick treatment.

I hate Musk far more than I hate bigotry, I encourage open bigotry and racism against the rich. At least then its useful.

Corporate heads are virtually dictators by default.

No way Musk is used to people telling him no. Same as trump.

[–] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 38 points 22 hours ago

That's why a lot of them are also rapists.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 8 points 21 hours ago

I can guarantee the person who disliked must love the taste of salty tears and boot underside.

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 17 points 19 hours ago

This is already starting out so well and they haven't even taken office. Have they started construction on the ceiling cutouts Elon will need to marionette the orange genius around with?

[–] EvilBit@lemmy.world 173 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Guarantee he hasn’t realized shit. In his mind, it was the best idea in the world when he had it, and now it’s the best idea in the world to walk it back. He’s so brilliant, he was right twice about the same thing.

Whoever wrote this headline hasn’t met a true narcissist.

[–] abigscaryhobo@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago

Not only that but he tweeted something around 100 times that day. Someone got their "special medicine" and went on a bender confident they knew everything. And now they've come down and they're confident they still do but can't admit they were off their gourd for a day. Like a typical narcissist yes.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The guy has basically admitted takes K to not face personal accountability.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 13 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

If that's true and he's not a full-blown sociopath with resistance to the impact of his actions, we just have to wait is for him to need to dose up so high he never leaves his k-hole and we can get back to never talking about him ever again.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 hours ago

You basically have to deliberately try to OD on ketamine, and even then you're unlikely to be successful if you're snorting it, easier if you're injecting it. It was created to be a safer alternative to morphine

[–] YarHarSuperstar@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago

It's pretty hard to OD on K, if not impossible in most cases. So not likely. I share your desire to stop hearing about this asshole though.

[–] steal_your_face@lemmy.ml 5 points 21 hours ago

That’d be nice but seems unlikely

Trump is going to realize very quickly that musk is a massive liability and, worse than that is his mind, wants to run the show himself.

The fallout between the two of them will be fun to watch. I predict musk will find out very quickly that “his” people on Twitter are actually Trump people.

[–] Klear@sh.itjust.works 10 points 7 hours ago

Trump is going to realize

Bold claim.

[–] halykthered@lemmy.ml 27 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I don't believe in heaven, but people like this make me hope hell is real.

[–] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 9 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The Great Nothing frightens them even more though.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 14 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

In the grand history of the universe, they are already nothing. They just aren't smart enough to realize that.

They cling to the idea that they are gaining immortality via a legacy. Their legacy will mean nothing in a few turns l tend if thousands of years - probably much sooner. They will be forgotten, just like the rest of us. Time is the great equalizer. It's just a shame their shitty, greedy actions cause so much stress and misery to others in the mean time.

[–] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 20 hours ago

I'm surprised Musk (suspectedly) did shrooms and never got that.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 60 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I wish actual bad things would happen to musk.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 27 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Or even if something good like being able to learn from mistakes. Seems so unlikely.

[–] recentSloth43@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Spoiled children don't have the capacity for that much emotional Intelligence. It's physically impossible.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 8 points 1 day ago

Can we focus on realistic outcomes?

[–] GoofSchmoofer@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

At the very least I wish that every morning he steps on a 4 sided die and a handful of Lego's.

A d4.. fuck, remind me not to get on your bad side lol

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Musk's inability to govern should have become apparent when he fired everyone at Twitter, scrambled to hire them back, and then got caught failing to do basic things like "pay rent".

https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/14/twitter-is-being-evicted-from-its-boulder-office-over-unpaid-rent/

[–] quafeinum@lemmy.world 1 points 6 minutes ago

Like when he did the same thing at spacex and Tesla?

[–] anarchrist@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 day ago

No shit. Turns out being the world's richest failson is not a super useful skill? Who knew?

[–] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Next time I hear that government should be run like a business...

The response is easy...

"That's exactly what Musk thought"

[–] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, did someone brief Musk in between ketamine hits?

Shouldn't have run for President then. 🤷

[–] graycube@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He can't. He's an immigrant, and technically not even a legal one.

[–] Makeitstop@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Deny. Defend. Deport.

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (3 children)

What I don't get is why anyone in power (except maybe Captain Cheeto) actually bothers to listen to him in the first place. It's not like he has any actual authority. Congress is absolutely free to ignore him entirely, and they should

regardless of which side of the aisle they're on.

[–] 31337@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 hours ago

He can use his money to support challengers in their next elections. He's already said he's going to do this to the Democrats. As we've seen with AIPAC recently, it doesn't take much money to unseat politicians. Musk has enough money to basically control congress.

[–] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 6 points 22 hours ago

Because he’s paying off Trump’s legal debt is my best guess.

I could be wrong, but that’s my head canon at least.

[–] Nomecks@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago

Never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 11 points 1 day ago

For Former Husband to Canadian Author Justine Musk to realize that they do not have the ability to realize that they can't govern would require self-reflection. Fairly sure, Estranged Father to Vivian Wilson does not have the ability to self-reflect.

[–] ramsorge@discuss.online 7 points 1 day ago

I can’t tell if this is satire or not.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm confused, why is he walking it back?

[–] sepi@piefed.social 13 points 1 day ago

Because he cares about "looking like he was right the whole time", because he's a narcissist.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

nooo, you were doing so well too!

/S

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

Running a private tyranny (or several of them) is much different than trying to govern (what is theoretically) a democracy.
