How does one get a free copy of said books, asking an embassy? I sent one of ours an e-mail asking if it'd be possible to get an English copy of Governance of China Volume 1 almost a year ago and never got a response stalin-bummed

I figured I'd write a basic installation guide for the people who may not already know how to use Modrinth's pack system.

  1. Download and install Prism Launcher from here. If you're using Linux, using the Flatpak version will make your life much easier as it comes bundled with multiple Java versions that you may need for specific Minecraft versions (including the one that this pack is on)
  2. Download the pack from here by going to the "Featured Versions" section on the left side of the screen and clicking the newest one that's currently available.
  3. Open Prism Launcher and click the "Add Instance" button in the top left, then select the "Import" tab from the options on the left side of the pop up window, then click the "Browse" button and select the .mrpack file you downloaded from Modrinth, then click the "Ok" button at the bottom.
  4. After you import the pack, you may need to change the Java version the game will launch with to Java 17. If you're on Linux and using the Flatpak, you already have Java 17, but if you're on Windows you will have to download it manually from here. Right click "Create Hexes 1.x.x" and then click the "Edit" button, then select the "Settings" tab from the options on the left side of the pop up window, then check the "Java installation" checkbox, then set the path to your Java 17 installation path, in my case because I'm on Linux and using the Flatpak, it's /app/jdk/17/bin/java.
  5. Finally, sign-in to your Minecraft account by clicking "Manage Accounts" in the top right, then clicking "Add Microsoft" and following the on-screen instructions for how to login via your Microsoft account. Once you've signed in with your actual Microsoft account, you're able to add another offline/cracked account with any username you'd like by clicking the "Add Offline" button. If you don't have an actual Minecraft account, I'm sure there is a fork of Prism Launcher somewhere with this requirement removed or you may even be able to manually add a offline account by editing the accounts file, but I'm honestly not sure. If anyone knows, feel free to post a reply.

The pack already comes with a lot of the optimization mods that are in Fabulously Optimized. You can just put your shaders in the shader packs folder and enable them in your video settings.

Does the base directory specification actually specify that directories in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME must use the full namespace & id as their name? I assumed it'd be here but I don't see it mentioned. I understand the idea behind it, to prevent conflicts between programs with the same name, but I've always really hated programs that do that because it's such a pain to remember the full path to what I'm looking for.

I'm a software engineer so naturally I think it'd be fucking awesome to work on something like Project Cybersyn.

Long story short: That pop-up you get when you open Firefox (or whatever other browser) for the first time asking you if you want to make it your default browser won't work anymore. They're forcing you to go through their convoluted control panel where you have to change it like 20 times for each file extension.

Really weird (/s) how quickly it went from a couple of Chinese tourists asking politely not be filmed to the guy embracing the racist Winnie the Pooh stereotype and talking about how oppressed Hong Kong and Taiwan are.

The news about this specific vulnerability is a bit old by now, but it doesn't hurt to drop a reminder that you should update your BIOS frequently to prevent yourself from falling victim to other vulnerabilities later down the line. BIOS updates can also improve performance as well (or make it worse, cough, Spectre mitigations) in a few scenarios.

If you have a laptop, it's probably as easy as just downloading your manufacturer's tool from their website, clicking a few buttons, restarting, and you should be set or your manufacturer might provide these updates thru Windows' update system which in that case you don't need to download any additional software.

If you're on a desktop however, most of the time this involves you downloading a file, throwing it on a USB stick, and updating it from the BIOS screen or by pressing a button on the back of the motherboard.

Either way, you're probably only a [insert search engine name here] search away from finding a guide on how to do it for your specific motherboard/device.

A few words of caution though: If you're on a desktop without a battery backup it's probably wise to only do these updates when you have high confidence that your power isn't going to drop during the update. If you lose power during one of these updates, recovery is not a fun task (unless your motherboard is fancy and has a button to recover from these kinds of scenarios) and your motherboard basically becomes a cool looking paper weight unless you want to flash the chip manually, which is possible but is kind of annoying to do and requires the right tools (but they're pretty cheap from Alibaba or whatever)

Anyway, rant over. Make sure you keep your computers up-to-date comrades, it's always worth spending the half an hour or so it takes to update everything on your computer so you can have some extra peace of mind.
