Listen, if I was in charge of $random_geopolitical_issue things would've gone a lot differently. Don't ask me what I would've done differently or, god forbid, how. It just would've. I would've done something to set right the injustices suffered by my nation. I am also going to weave and bob any question as to what specifically this would entail, on account of I am not educated enough to make this call, but my trusted advisory council of experts, of which I have 0 idea of how any of them got there or what their qualifications are, would've concocted up the solution that finally propels my state into the global hegemons and makes everybody love me.

Summary

Donald Trump has nominated Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, a Stanford health economist and co-author of the controversial Great Barrington Declaration, to lead the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Bhattacharya, a critic of lockdowns and vaccine mandates, advocated for herd immunity during the COVID-19 pandemic, a stance widely criticized by public health experts.

His nomination, alongside Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as HHS secretary, signals Trump’s intent to overhaul public health agencies.

Critics worry these appointments could undermine trust in public health, while supporters hail them as a challenge to the status quo.

We're happy to announce that BusKill cables can now be purchased in-person in Haaksbergen, Netherlands.

\[BusKill\] Our Dead Man Switch Magnetic USB Breakaway cables are Now Available in-person in The Netherlands at NovaCustom The BusKill project has partnered with NovaCustom to make BusKill laptop kill cords available from another brick-and-mortar location in Europe. You can now go to the NovaCustom office and purchase a BusKill cable with cash or cryptocurrency.

NOTE: In-person orders at NovaCustom's offices require an appointment. Please contact them over email or Signal to schedule an appointment before you go.

And, if paying with cash, bring the exact amount. They do not provide change.

About BusKill

BusKill is a laptop kill-cord. It's a USB cable with a magnetic breakaway that you attach to your body and connect to your computer.

What is BusKill? (Explainer Video)
Watch the BusKill Explainer Video for more info youtube.com/v/qPwyoD_cQR4

If the connection between you to your computer is severed, then your device will lock, shutdown, or shred its encryption keys -- thus keeping your encrypted data safe from thieves that steal your device.

While we do what we can to allow at-risk folks to purchase BusKill cables anonymously (or make their own), there is always the risk of interdiction.

We don't consider hologram stickers or tamper-evident tape/crisps/glitter to be sufficient solutions to supply-chain security. A better solution (in addition to making the hardware designs open-source) is to let users purchase the device anonymously. Generally, the best way to defeat interdiction is to go to a physical brick-and-mortar and pay with cash.

About NovaCustom

In Mar 2015, Wessel klein Snakenborg (founder of NovaCustom) started selling highly-customizable Linux laptops from Europe. In Aug 2021, NovaCustom released their first laptop (NV40) with coreboot pre-installed with Dasharo.

The Qubes-Certified NV41 with Heads pre-installed by NovaCustom NovaCustom offers anti-tamper options, including glitter nail polish applied to the chassis screws (photos sent to you via Proton Mail before shipment — specify PGP key at checkout for e2ee)

In 2023, NovaCustom caught the eye of many in the security community, as they announced a number of major milestones:

And in Feb 2024, NovaCustom started selling their NV41 laptop with Heads pre-installed.

And now, as part of the partnership with the BusKill project, NovaCustom allows customers to place orders anonymously on their website, pickup the order in-person, and pay with cash (Euros only, exact cash required, and per-arranged appointment required for pickup). They also accept payments in Monero and Bitcoin. We're excited to partner with another leader in privacy solutions for high-risk folks in Europe, and we hope you'll consider buying a Qubes-certified NovaCustom laptop + BusKill Kit from NovaCustom in The Netherlands.

Summary

Donald Trump’s cabinet picks, including Chris Wright for energy secretary, Lee Zeldin for EPA head, and Doug Burgum for interior secretary, reflect a strong pro-fossil fuel stance and skepticism or outright denial of climate science.

Wright, a fossil fuel executive and climate change denier, exemplifies the administration’s alignment with Project 2025, a plan to dismantle environmental protections.

Critics warn these appointments will stall clean energy progress and weaken air and water protections.

Trump’s choices signal a rollback of climate action despite global momentum toward renewable energy investments.

For this Wednesday Super Slop Night, first up is The Wandering Earth (2019), often considered to be China’s first sci-fi blockbuster with production values on par with Hollywood. It follows the efforts of humanity to save Earth by moving it out of range of the expanding sun by creating gigantic engines that propel it to safety, and toward a new home in a star system lightyears away. Yes, China pretty much made its own Jerry Bruckheimer movie. Sounds pretty schlocky, but hey, at least it isn’t Hollywood. Director is Frant Gwo, who is best-known for this film and its sequel, which almost everyone considers to be superior; I guess we’ll have to watch that next week.

After that is Longlegs (2024), a horror film about a deranged serial killer (Nicolas Cage) and the young FBI agent hired to pursue him. As she uncovers more of the case, she uncovers an occult conspiracy and discovers the killer has been harnessing demonic powers. Spookiness ensues. This is by far the best-known work to date of director Osgood Perkins. The film was a hit at the box office a few months ago, and is one of the buzziest films of the year on Letterboxd, so let’s give it a whirl.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Hextube, right here:

Be there, comrades!
