It's been holding up a mirror to them the entire time
they're so media illiterate and so trained to react to buzzwords that they couldn't understand the most obvious satire of Amerika-brand fascism until the exact moment somebody got punched for saying "blue lives matter". That's the point when this blew up, they only caught on to it all the moment Bootlick Falcon or however that guy was called showed up and used their exact dogwhistles, verbatim.
