It wasn't so much Joe Biden having a good day as it was Obama, making all the calls necessary for the other neolibs to fall in line (and perhaps for the other "progressive" to stay in the race).
In any case, a lot of radlibs started screaming about the sky falling immediately and took on a "oh well, guess socialism will never work time to support the libs!" stance.
They never had any intent of building a broader left wing movement. It just seemed like a cool thing to hop on for them. Once it became clear that it would be difficult, they took the easy way out and switched sides.
