About 9/11 (hexbear.net)

I get the memes and all that, but am I wrong in thinking it's a tad more complex? In any context, I can't help but regret such loss of life. As I think about it, though, I guess we wrought all manner of havoc in the Middle East, and we didn't spare civilians, so why should we expect any different. All the horrific things we did there... I see clearly why it happened. I just can't see myself supporting such an action. If they flew planes first into government buildings (which I know they tried) or military bases I could understand better. I just can't in good conscience support either what we did there or what happened here. I also won't say the US didn't deserve it; we totally did, but was actually doing it the correct move? How is it entirely different from going out and shooting random finance bros or billionaires. Sure they deserve it, sure it'll make us feel better, but I don't think it'd bring about real change. It's the argument against adventurism. And it helped fast-track surveillance fascism here, though I don't blame them for that, that was our own ghoul-ass politicians and scared people.

I guess this could be a common sentiment, and people just like memeing, which is all right, I suppose, so long as it doesn't get you in prison for making an ill-advised joke.

The systems of control used to kill the worker turn me against my fellow man. I dont care about the company i dont care about productivity but they drill and drill until I become the enemy. I either throw away my life and career to serve my ideals or bend the knee and become the demon i sought to destroy.

Capitalism makes us eat each other whether its through POINTLESS fucking consumerism BULLSHIT or through adhering to work performance goals KPI's OKR's BULL SHITT ERY.

It makes us eat each other.

Be careful not to become bitter to your fellow man, we're not here to hurt each other

It's a common antisemitic talking point that pissrael controls the usa and not vice-versa, anymore though it feels like they're getting bolder and bolder and doing whatever the fuck they please without getting the green light from the USA. Or in the very least Trump just doesn't care about his rabid dog and lets it bite all his neighbors and blames them instead for getting bit.

One thing is for sure, they are so fucking bold, just doing whatever the fuck they please.

Tinder sort of just randomly sends you people after 3 days of being like "there is no one in your area". That's fine because in my area, it's nothing but tradwives, country music, and fishing profiles.

I tried Veggly because a super bonus point is finding someone to chill with that is also vegan. Well, there's like 4 people in my area on there. Sort of figured but lol anyway. There are a few more if you check like 500 miles away but not quite looking for the nomadic life just yet.

Tried Feeld, and no. Just no. I'm open to various relationship dynamics but that ain't it.

Tried Hinge, it was mostly dead until I changed my gender back to male and put that I'm only looking for women. Feels a bit disingenuous but whatever. But again in my area, I keep getting Christian tradwives and shit.

And if you find someone that seems nice on these dumb apps, they have to like you back before they can communicate with you. But... but... you can spend $149.99 to see who liked you. Not predatory at all. Just me heading back to the dating slop machine to toss more money at it to see who likes my ugly ass.

But like I've seen a few that I genuinely liked but will never be able to contact since it's all behind a paywall.

Saturday evening I matched on Tinder with 3 people. First one, said hey and they unmatched, second one I waited for them to say hey, then replied and they unmatched. 3rd one flatout ghosted me.

I got a "like" notification from a random old dude yesterday on Tinder but my profile isn't even set for interested in men.

I redid my entire Hinge and Tinder profile like 3 times each.

On Bumble I got a like notification and actually spent $25 to see who it was. She was cute, seemed nice. So we talked a bit, she gave me her number and we talked on the phone some. We talked a bit about our own messed up lives. She had breast cancer, which isn't a dealbreaker, she's ND as fuck, but so am I. We went on a date. It was awkward. First her pics on Bumble were from like 15 years ago. The whole date was awkward, but towards the end we decided to go for a walk and the conversation was just about exes. Which is never a good sign. Then my ex actually fucking called me because the kids wanted to show me their Legos. That caused me to spiral all over again. So still processing the divorce. Went home and got trashed and realized that I'm not gonna be a good fit for this person that I went on the date with. She needs someone that can take care of her. I can't even take care of myself.

I'm probably done with even trying to find someone that fits me. I'm too old to start over. This city sucks for trying to find anyone remotely close to my personality.

This shit is just fucking depressing.

Thanks for coming to my rouxTALK.

Edit: I'm buried in the comments but at work rn. I'll try to get to the rest tonight. I honestly didn't think this would gain much conversation since it was met to be me screaming in the void. ❤️🖤

So yeah, borgerlig means "bourgeois" but it also means "right-wing" or more broadly just "not socialist". And so I've had to hear right-wing dipshits say this election stuff like

  • Vote bourgeois! (this message paid for by Some Guy With a German Last Name Joint Stock Company)
  • Do you want a bourgeois victory in this election? Then you better vote for these parties!
  • I could never in my life vote for the Reds, I'll be voting bourgeois this election. Here's to a bourgeois victory!
  • Et cetera

And this is just seen as completely normal. It boggles the mind how this terminology practically rubs your face in how right-wing politics only benefit the ruling class, and yet people still end up supporting it somehow?!

Hello everyone ,I’m really pleading for help. My sister is still in the hospital and we need to clear her bill. The balance left is 1230 USD. I haven’t been online because I had no access to the internet. honestly our situation has just been getting worse. We haven’t had food at home for two days now. It’s heartbreaking and so hard to even write this but we are just desperate. Being transgender refugees has made everything even harder and we truly don’t have anywhere else to turn. I know it feels like I’m always asking for help and I don’t want to burden anyone but honestly right now we have no hope other than the kindness of those who see this. Please if you can support us through the link in my bio/profile. We shall really be glad. Thank you so very much.

From this thread

Here is the follow-up where I told her that she has no legal basis to charge me for this

She showed up today, and she said, "I don't know what else to do but replace it entirely, so if you want to save your money, you can find a way to fix it yourself." This implies that she is still clinging onto the baseless premise that I must've been responsible for this, something she has absolutely zero evidence for and is using her vibes as the source of the belief.

I told her that I will find a cheaper solution and get back to her within a week.

(However, to be clear, I am not going to try to actually implement any DIY fixes because I know that could make me liable if I actually do cause damage in the process.)

What I'm actually going to do, instead, is contact her in a week to let her know that she still has no legal basis to charge me for this and that she is free to replace it, but it cannot come out of my money without sufficient evidence that this is beyond normal wear-and-tear.

Basically, I'll just be reiterating what I already said.

Organizational restructuring takes yet another. Shit sucks. Find it hard to remain hopeful for anything ever again in this state of capitalist America.

Unfortunately, I can’t write a program that manipulates a file faster than someone who knows the bare bones of LLMs. Even if I did use a LLM to do the same, it really wouldn’t matter. My fatal flaw was strongly believing that capitalists care about duct-taped deliverables, but unfortunately they couldn’t care less.

I signed up online for the appointment, but when I got there the head pharmacist on duty said I was too healthy to be immunized. honk-enraged

I was so mad I walked out and didn't even get my flu shot. I'll go somewhere else for that I guess.

Go to hell, RFK Jr.

~~It's funny because the online questionnaire said I would be ineligible for the COVID vaccine if I had any health conditions. Then when I show up for the appointment they tell me the exact opposite.~~ Never mind, I misread the questionnaire; it says patients who do not have any of the listed conditions are ineligible.

I misread it because my understanding is that, typically, chronic conditions disqualify you for a vaccine, because healthy people are least likely to have a negative reaction to a vaccine and most likely to have a positive immune response. AFAIK the only reason for a healthy person not to be vaccinated is if they're not at risk for contracting the disease (e.g. smallpox).

If I had read it correctly, I would have been prepared to do the dance and lie.

So this government minister, Angela Rayner, has a disabled son, Charlie. He was born prematurely and there were problems during the birth which left him blind and with special needs. Charlie was awarded compensation from the NHS, which was put into a trust for him. This money was his, to help him throughout his life.

Angela Rayner already had two homes, a house she owned, and a free house given to her as a perk of her job. But she decided this wasn't enough. She wanted another one that cost £800K, and stole some of her son's compensation to buy it. On top of this, she committed fraud by claiming it was her only home so she paid less tax on it.

She's been found out now, and has resigned. An everyday prole like us would go to prison if we did all this, but our high and mighty overlords are protected from such consequences. This government treat disabled people like scum for claiming money to live (even though some of them have disabled kids themselves) all the while they are stealing and committing fraud to build up a portfolio of luxury homes.

EDIT: Oh, and Rachel Reeves, the evil minister who has tried to basically end disability benefits? She publicly stated that she supports Angela Rayner and has "full confidence" in her. Birds of an evil feather really do stick together.

I Voted™. (hexbear.net)
submitted 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) by Erika3sis@hexbear.net to c/chat@hexbear.net

I thought the whole time I waited, "I'm making a fool of myself and being bad about COVID," so I'm still not fully sure why I even bothered voting. Maybe it was the ol' Q2:14, shame on me. Or maybe I wanted to practice interacting with public servants. Or maybe I figured voting was still something, or that I had some sort of vague "duty" to vote for the leftmost party possible. Or maybe I wanted to be able to say to liberals, "I did vote and the country's still going to shit." — even though I know they won't listen to me no matter what.

Or maybe I wanted to send a local politician a picture of my ballot with his name checked off — only for me to find out last minute that you can only check off individuals' names in local elections, not national ones.

Or maybe I hoped I could write in a party that didn't have ballots — nope, I couldn't write in the Communist Party, I wonder why.

Or maybe I just wanted to see through practical experience whether I still agreed with my analysis of elections through the lens of ritualization and civil religion — yes, I still do, in fact I said out loud, "Now to close the confessional's curtain..." as I entered the voting booth, and "...And there we've given our votive offering to the gods." after I submitted my ballot.

This election has shown me a new way that elections really are just another holiday: they fill some people with dread.

Many people don't look forward to Christmas or Halloween each year, and I haven't looked forward to the coming election day at all. For some reason this election in particular has given me more dread than any other. Political ads and news articles have just depressed and annoyed me more than usual.

It feels like this election has taken a year off my life, maybe because I know that the policies that will come out of it will take ten years off my life. We all know how this election's going to end: capital has been propping up the far-right and letting it fester, and now's its time to shine. So just rip the band-aid off already. Don't give me this torturous farce of song and dance. Don't even try to give me false hope.

Just three more days, I can make it...

My partner and I are eating out at our favorite indian place, and the guy who owns the place who always takes our order knew what we usually order! This is the first time either of us have become regulars at a restaurant, but we are actually never coming back because we are moving back across the country tomorrow. I'm gonna miss their Chana Masala so much

Maybe in the far far far far future if we ever return to the area, we can come back here.

He recently did an interview discussing how media distracts from important issues, and essentially one of the things he discussed in the interview is that he had no interest in Black Sabbath’s music or Ozzy Osbourne’s music/career and referred to his TV show as “idiocy and nonsense”, and the media is acting like he just pissed on Ozzy’s grave and slapped his kids in the face or something.

Is it a bit blunt saying that 5/6 weeks after he died? Sure. But the media is going as far as to refer to him as “unhinged” over it. He didn’t even insult Ozzy as a person, just said that he never cared for his music or media presence.

I just don’t see how any of what he said is that big of a deal, but I’d be interested to hear other opinions on this.
