They did it on purpose. The Spaniards believed that the existence of indigenous texts would promote idolatry and inhibit the adoption of Catholicism.

We found a large number of books in these characters and, as they contained nothing in which were not to be seen as superstition and lies of the devil, we burned them all, which they regretted to an amazing degree, and which caused them much affliction. ---The Spanish Archdiocese in 1562 (Wikipedia)

The destruction was done before 1810.

The last codices destroyed were those of Nojpetén, Guatemala in 1697, the last city conquered in the Americas. (Wikipedia)

Why 1810?

I was just in a stuffy auditorium with 1000 other students for an hour (I did not know in advance that I was going to be there), so I'm pretty sure I'll get sick. meow-tableflip

I need to start bringing a mask in my book bag, even if nobody else on campus wears one. I managed to make it all these years without the rona (until now?)

Only 4 Texts Remain from the Maya Civilization After Thousands Were Destroyed

Despite the fact that we are not very far removed from their heyday, we know very little about Maya civilization.

And it’s not because the Maya weren’t into recording their history.

The Maya were prolific writers and actually evolved from using scrolls to a form of folded paper called the codex right around the same time as the Romans, though each appears to be independent of the other.

[...]

Maya glyphs and the records of the Spanish conquistadors themselves attest to thousands of these codices existing by the time the two cultures met in the 16th century.

But, due to their being destroyed by priests, conquistadors, ship raiders, and even time and mold, only about 22 codices, of which only four have Maya origin, exist today.

None of them are complete, and none have their original covers.

[...]

And you might have noticed that the oldest one only goes back to 200-300 years before the Spanish conquest.

We know that the codices went back at least 800 years prior to that, so we’re essentially looking at the tip of a fingernail and trying to guess what the hand looked like.

And that’s how the soul of a culture gets erased from history…

I wanted a "satchel" for school, and the lovely item I bought was named a "men's messenger bag". I've never heard that term before!

The differences between it and a "women's purse" (WP):

  1. It has a more comfortable shoulder strap than the dainty ones on WPs.
  2. Its morphology is pretty square. WPs have fewer right angles.

That's all I got so far.

I do prefer this style to WPs. It fits my look. I don't have a problem with style differences. I just think "men's purse" is a more accurate term; but I'm sure that name scared the American focus groups lol.

Well, maybe my bag is differentiated in that it can carry a laptop. Can WPs do that?

Estrogen isn't a molecule. It's a class of feminizing hormones, the most prominent of which is estradiol. Others include estrone and estriol. Collectively, these are called estrogens.

The masculinizing analog for estrogen is androgen (a word you practically never hear*), which also refers to a class of hormones. In addition to being the most well-known of the androgens, testosterone might be the most famous hormone in the whole body**. Dihydrotestosterone is actually the most potent androgen. Androsterone and Androstenedione are (relatively weak) others.

*e.g. It's such an androgen fest!

**Adrenaline is the only competitor that comes to mind.

Sites like Hexbear source scripts from only one domain (hexbear.net). I like those sites.

Other sites loop in a few JavaScript libraries. They have a few domains asking for permissions. That's okay. A little lazy, but acceptable.

Then you have the corporate websites with, like, sixty JavaScript domains. Holy crap! What are scripts from facebook, pinterest, and amazon doing on this news article about jellyfish? brow And the website is perfectly functional with just a couple domains enabled. fry

This is a belated follow-up to a post from several months ago.

TL;DR: New restrictions on controlled medications require that patients use a pharmacy within a few miles of their prescribing physician, and my psychiatrist is two hours away. Many comrades suggested looking into online pharmacies.

Developments

I called three online pharmacies and inquired if they could fill controlled prescriptions. They all said yes!

However...

None take patients without health insurance! meow-tableflip

And so, my routine continues. I'm going to the pharmacy tomorrow. If I leave by 8 AM tomorrow I should be back in time for afternoon classes. yes-honey-left

My Refill Workflow

  1. Leave a voicemail with my physician's clinic requesting a refill

  2. Pharmacy never automatically fills it, so I have to follow up.

  3. Call pharmacy. Robot says

Hi. What can I do for you? :blob-no-thoughts:

I'm inquiring about my prescription's status. comrade-raccoon

Okay, I can help you with that! Please say or enter your prescription number. :blob-no-thoughts:

As a matter of fact, I don't have it because controlled substances cannot be refilled and thusly every dispensation requires a new, unique prescription number which I have literally no way of knowing until I receive it. :morshupls:

I'm sorry, I didn't quite get that. Please say or enter your prescription number. :blob-no-thoughts:

I don't have it. comrade-raccoon

What can I do for you? You can say things like: "what are the pharmacy hours", or "refill a prescription" :blob-no-thoughts:

Motherfucker, if you don't put me on the phone with a person RIGHT NOW I will crawl through this goddamn telephone wire and SHOVE your stupid-ass code through your interface! knifecat

Okay. I'll get you to someone. :blob-no-thoughts:

Hello, mister pharmacy tech, sir. Can I pick up my prescription tomorrow morning? comrade-raccoon

I don't see any prescriptions here... Wait! Oh, it looks like there is a problem with your prescriber's DEA number. capitaldcolon

Yeah, that sounds right. The very same thing the last five times, too. The head pharmacist should be able to straighten it up. comrade-raccoon

Okay. Check back this afternoon. feinberg-sicko

  1. Call pharmacy again for Follow-Up: Round Two. Repeat the locution with the bot to speak to a pharmacist who confirms it's ready.

  2. Drive a zillion miles and pick it up.

God Bless America amerikkka-clap

All three have iproute2 as a dependency, which makes me think the answer is 'yes'.
