People are out there thiccifying and mammalifying the bug from Silksong. We literally get to see Hornet

Silksong spoilernaked, and as one would expect, she doesn't have mammalian sexual features

but these people somehow still need to give her tits and ass. I would respect the gooners more if they would just jack it to the in-game nudity. Yes, Hornet is really cool and cute, and I can see that leading to attraction. So be attracted to her, not to a pornified abomination of her that's really got nothing to do with her. Hornet canonically

Silksong spoilerdoes not want to be touched or peeked on without her permission, and has had mates and partners in the past
.

What's the point in saying "you know, she's cool and all, but she'd be way hotter if she looked and acted completely different?"

These gooners need to read the Bible more carefully. it is written: render unto gooners what is gooners' (porn), and unto non-gooners what is non-gooners' (everything else).

Love this, thank you for uploading it here

Dex build actually, because I thought a strength build on the little guy would just look too silly. I loved the moveset of the starting rapier so much I stuck with it for the entire game, occasionally swapping to the tyrant slayer's dagger for boss fights or really big and tough enemies because I liked the drip of taking down bosses with a weapon named that.

I also didn't bother with swapping weapon handles because it would mess with the moveset and therefore the aesthetics, and this game is heavy on aesthetics and style. I kind of Fashion Souls'd myself out of a core mechanic of the game. I tried, mind you, like when I was struggling with one boss in particular I looked for advice on how to fight her and "longspear handle + acid spear tip" was the consistent answer. I tried, but the moveset was not aesthetic, so I went back to ol' (un)reliable

I gifted a friend the game, he went with an arcane build because he likes magic stuff, and he breezed through it. I felt a little bad for him that he found it so easy actually. Part of the joy of these games is the struggle.

It has never been a better time to be an non-mammal. No-nose-gang stay winning

I agree, though I didn't end up using those features in retrospect I should have. And I think Lies of P is the best soulslike I've ever played. (Apparently it's also easier if you play anything other than the build I chose, oops).

Another Crab's Treasure does it well too with a lot of different accessibility settings! It also is more linear so you can get really really roadblocked with nowhere else to go and nothing to do except best your head against the wall. I did resort to the Glock accessibility setting in Another Crab's Treasure for one boss.

I pre-killed enemies too and it still took me a bunch of tries, lol. I actually thought I would like to more/cheat past that hurdle but decided I'd give it a few more honest tries because it seemed doable, I was just making mistakes. That is, it didn't feel unfair to me.

I did use cheats 3 times in my replay of the original Hollow Knight I played in preparation for Silksong: one to deal with a bug where if the soul master hits you as you kill him, he wiggles in his death animation forever, and you have to quit and fight him again. That's a bug they should have fixed buy never did, so I put on infinite health to be able to brute force through fighting him again. The 2nd and third times I cheated weren't legitimate, but I was just not having fun anymore, had done evwrything else except the final boss and godhome (which I never did because I didn't care about it) and I wanted to see the lore / dialogue: white flower, and path of pain. I have no regrets about cheating my way through those because I just wouldn't have seen that content otherwise (I didn't do them on my first play through).

Yeah you're spot on!

My general experience with Silksong so far:

  • I notice I keep losing earlier and earlier to a boss because I'm stuck in a rut and am actually practicing losing. I need a break. But I can't make myself stop.

  • "I got to his 2nd phase on my 5th try, why can't I do it again? The runback sucks but I'll give it just one more run! Maybe if I spam my poison kunai I can brute force through the 2nd phase!" (Spoiler, there's a third phase I didn't know about)

  • repeat step 2 til I'm out of bug shards

  • give up and go farm shards

  • quick detour to a vendor to bank the rosaries I got while farming shards, and buy more shard bundles

  • oh hey, while backtracking I met NPC who wasn't there before but has moved here now! Taking a break wasn't bad, it was good!

  • oh snap I accidentally stumbled onto a new area! Taking a break was actually great!

  • 15 hours of exploration and gameplay later, multiple damage upgrades, new tools and abilities found: "I should try that boss again"

  • discover a shortcut yo the boas that makes the run back easier too, which I'd missed before because I was too tunnel-visioned.

  • beat them in under 5 tries with my new tools and skills and greater fluency of the game.

maybe removing that aspect doesn't matter for a player who was going to stubbornly try to do one thing at a time

Yes, but I'm going to say they're playing the game wrong and if they want to suffer extra then they can pay the price of that. Let them opt in to that. If the devs responded to gripes by making tools/shards/rosaries infinite and putting stakes of Marika everywhere, they'd be encouraging the "beat your head against the wall forever" approach. Which would make sense in a game that's very linear with a level progression, but would conflict with the design of these kinds of exploration games.

Sometimes walls are there to encourage you to do something different. Sometimes they're there for pacing. If you brute force the graveyard in Dark Souls 1 right odd the bat you'll pay for it and that's part of the game's charm. It was trying to tell you to explore somewhere else and learn how to handle the graveyard.

In Demon Souls, the run to the boss was basically part of the boss's design. Putting in stakes of Marika would have been bad.

Cool and fun though it was, I actually feel Elden Ring was a step backward in FromSoft's game design, lore, and worldbuilding, and I think it's too bad this was the game that really blew up and did the best of their catalogue.

I could get lost in a paper bag so I almost always wear the compass unless I need the spare slot for a specific boss fight and have memorized the runback.

I know about the always on compass mod but I choose not to install it anyway because I think of it as a balancing choice. Team Cherry could have put in an always on compass feature and come up with some diegetic explanation for how it worked. That they chose not is a deliberate balancing choice and I choose to respect it by not modding it out.

  1. You are correct.

  2. That toad is so cute!

Prince of Darkness (1987)

I haven’t seen this one so can’t give as detailed and loving a writeup as I did for Ghosts of Mars. But here’s what Wikipedia has to say: “The second installment in what Carpenter calls his "Apocalypse Trilogy"—which began with The Thing (1982) and concludes with In the Mouth of Madness (1994)[2]—the film follows a group of quantum physics students in Los Angeles who are asked to assist a Catholic priest in investigating an ancient cylinder of liquid discovered in a monastery, which they come to find is a sentient, liquid embodiment of Satan.”

It’s John Carpenter and it isn’t Vampire$ so it has to be good, right?

It’s 1h41min long so we will try to start promptly at 5:30 Eastern US Time to provide for enough buffer and not eat into the regularly scheduled movie night which starts at 8PM Eastern US time (but as always it may depend when I get home). Aiming for a hard start time at the latest by 6PM Eastern US time. My volunteer shifts have been getting done a little early this week so I may be able to start closer to 5:30 than previous times when I’ve been fashionably late to my own movie showing.

Content Warnings:

  • blanket warning for “severe gore”

  • stabbings, lots of blood.

  • Suicide

  • Dismemberment and decapitation shown

  • “bloody, deformed grisly faces”

  • “There are many intense scenes most involve close up of bugs which can be very disturbing and will make you squirm”

  • jump scares

  • dead animals — a man finds a pigeon tied to a cross, which is going to make me very sad to see

  • lots of bugs crawling on people

  • eye, finger, bone mutilation.

  • sexual harassment? According to UnconsentingMedia, but the note makes it ambiguous and DTDD disagrees.

Ghosts of Mars (2001)

John Carpenter’s signature penchant for lovingly-crafted sets, costumes, and special effects, weird fiction stories, and gruesome horror meets a suspenseful, complex, and action-packed plot, delivered by a star-studded cast: Pam Grier, Natasha Henstridge, Ice Cube as basically himself, Jason Statham as basically himself, Clea Duvall, and Joanna Cassidy.

Set in the distant future of 2176, when Womankind (yes, they have a matriarchal society) has colonized Mars. A detail of cops is sent to the mining town of Shining Canyon to retrieve a wanted criminal, James “Desolation” Williams, who’s been captured and is being held in the town. But upon arrival, there’s nobody around. The cops investigate, and what they find is a dark and bloody mystery. A whole lot of death, dismemberment, mutilation, blood, gore, and spooky shenanigans ensue set against the beautifully composed backdrop of John Carpenter’s dark synths and light metal. The lighting is beautifully red, because this is Mars, the red planet, and it’s not just blood that’s red here.

Part horror, part space western minus the genocidal settler-colonial atrocities, it is a fantastic film. Sadly, it was such box-office bomb that John Carpenter went into retirement for almost a decade. The movie has been unfairly maligned as “bad” because it was a “commercial failure” (making back only $14million of its $28million budget) with “ham-fisted acting”, according to critics who clearly cannot recognize Genius even when it stares them directly in the face. But I maintain that John Carpenter did not fail America; America failed John Carpenter! And now we who reject the legitimacy of so-called America can do what we can to make up for that failure in our own small way by giving His Genius the veneration and adoration it so rightly deserves (by watching a copy of the film that none of us paid for).

It’s 1h38min long so we will try to start promptly at 5:30 Eastern US Time to provide for enough buffer and not eat into the regularly scheduled movie night which starts at 8PM Eastern US time (but as always it may depend when I get home). ** The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) **

Starring the same lead actors with the same director, this movies is much darker and less lighthearted than In Bruges. Tragicomedy with much more emphasis on the “tragi” part, I found it unsettling and terrifying by the end. But it has the same tightly woven dialogue and self-references that In Bruges had!

Set on a remote fictional island off the west coast of Ireland in 1923, two lifelong friends find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship. A lot of strangeness ensues. The civil war rages in the background and there’s definitely no metaphors or symbolism here.

Obsessed with this mashup today. I'm surprised how well it works.

I'll be doing a T-shirt printing soon to celebrate our upcoming victory (which the bottlenose dolphins I have established long-distance telepathic communication with (it must be long distance, for I live in a landlocked state) assure me is nigh) over the forces of reaction and I don't know which to have printed on the new government uniform: USSA (United Soviet States of America) or USSotFUSA (United Soviet States of the Former United States of America).

I am also considering, due to the significant trauma everyone's got around the names "America" and "USA", doing away with it altogether and just calling our new country "HexBearLand" or "Cuddlefish's Country of Communal Proletarianism", if the councils will agree to make me the tip of the spear.

I considered holding an election to determine the name, but I do not relish the prospect of having to be a proud citizen of CountryMcCountryFace.

(Reference: https://hexbear.net/post/5836505)

Given the propensity of propagandists to pick through comments in order to smear Hexbear (and, more recently, Lemmygrad), the only sensible way to protect ourselves from such calumny is to obscure what we say.

I propose a radical change to this site's code that will replace every word in a post or a comment with the word "removed". That's not code for some slur the filter is cstching. It is the word removed, spelled r e m o v e d or in the alpha bravo charlie tango code: aardvark, elephant, mouse, opossum, vulture, echidna, deinonychus.

" Comrade Cud", you may ask, "how are we to know what we are saying?". Oh ye of little faith! Have we not developed our own in-group communication methods? Have we not forged an unbreakable bond of fraternal intimacy in these trenches of shitposting? Have we not melded, mind and soul?

For those in the know, "removed removed removed removed removed removed" is clearly a slogan about a fate wished upon the firSSt world. "Removedremovedremoved" is clearly about PPB, while "removed removed removed" is "marg bar amrika". With context, the various meanings of " removed" are clear. Wecan do this. 3 words or a thousand, we can communicate with only "removed". I can feel the truth of this in all three of my hearts.

Besides, my personal research (reading the lost hidden texts of Juan Posadas) assure me that English will be obsolete soon. The true revolutionary cadre will be speaking Dolphinese soon enough. Consider the removed filter a baby step toward leaving behind the language of colonization in favor of the language of liberation.

Y'all keep swearing oaths. I can't open a post without someone swearing to destroy capitalism, so help them god. How many of you have fulfilled those oaths? New site rule I propose: NO MORE SWEARING OATHS UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY MEAN IT. Come on, this is basic shit, my parents taught me when I was 4 years old not to swear a blood oath that I will not misbehave at pre-school unless I actually meant it and thought I could follow through, which I sure as shit did not. A sworn oath may be a source of strength if it is possible to fulfill, but if it can't, it is naught but the seeds of disappointment, despair, and despondency. Worse yet, when someone hears your sworn oath and counts on you to at least try to fulfill it but you didn't mean it, you let them down, possibly even putting them in danger.

If I have to see one more person swear an oath on their axe, or on the lock of hair their mother gave their father to protect him on his dangerous quest a few years before having their Hexbearian child, or by the feathers of their favorite neighborhood crow, I will lose my mind and pester them every day asking "how's that sworn oath going? Achieve it yet? Still sticking to it? Still mean it? Or do your promises mean nothing to you? Does the acorn that fell from the tallest oak tree on the tallest hill bearing the sweet baby grubs of the adorable acorn weevil, upon which you swore eternal hatred for our capitalist overlords, mean nothing to you now that you're up for a promotion and all it takes is to rat out the union organizers at your workplace? Do the songs of the bluejays, upon which you swore your eternal love for the weak and defenseless of the world, mean nothing to you now that your 401K depends on you casting your voooooote for the most warmongering candidate? Do the last petals falling off the apple tree blossoms from that tree on the corner, upon which you swore to take me for ice cream soon longer ago than the window of "soon"ness, mean absolutely nothing to you?!

If I have to see one more person swearing an oath on this site I will spam you every day to pester you into standing by your word! This I swear on ~~my fervent desire that the adorable canada goslings I saw while walking around yesterday live long, healthy, happy lives~~ NOPE I'm not going to swear that oath even as a bit lest I invite HPAI into their lives because no way do I have the commitment to message a hundred people daily things like "hey, you swore to post beanis at least once a day every day until PSL actually wins an election but it's almost midnight and I haven't seen you post beanis even once, do you need an accountability buddy or do you just not care about a proletarian revolution in the imperial core?"

For a special pre-movie night movie session, we will be showing In Bruges.

Start time will be 5PM Eastern US Time

** In Bruges (2008)**: Irish hit man botches his first job. He and his mentor are sent to lay low in the small fairy-tale town of Bruges til it blows over. Shenanigans, existential angst, drugs, violence, and a whole lot of Colin Ferrel looking very sad ensue.

On a personal note I think this is the funniest serious movie I know of.

Content Warnings:

  • Trauma to an eyeball
  • Death of a child on screen
  • Murders
  • Several scenes of gore, quite graphic.
  • main characters die bloodily on screen.
  • Depression
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Suicide attempt
  • Suicide depicted.
  • Misogyny, threats of domestic violence
  • Alcoholism
  • Fatness as the butt of jokes
  • reference to child molestation
  • Sex pestery passed off as lads being lads — repeated attempts to flirt despite a clear “no”
  • Sex depicted and referred to.
  • Depictions of sex work
  • Lots of drug use shown on screen
  • Sexual assault mentioned, discussed, implied
  • Disrespectful language for sex workers.
  • Slurs for little people
  • Racism
  • Ambiguous ending -- is it happy? Is it sad? Both? Neither? I have my opinions but it's unclear.

Start time will be 5PM Eastern Time

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call: New Orleans (2009): (Synthesized from Wikipedia and IMDB:). Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans is a 2009 American black comedy crime drama film directed by Werner Herzog and starring Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Tom Bower, Jennifer Coolidge, Alvin 'Xzibit' Joiner, Val Kilmer, and Brad Dourif. Though the film's title and story loosely resemble that of Abel Ferrara's 1992 film Bad Lieutenant,[4] according to Herzog, it is neither a sequel nor a remake; its only commonality is a corrupt policeman as the central character.[5] Nonetheless, the director of the original Bad Lieutenant film, Abel Ferrara, expressed dismay that the Herzog film was being made.

Summary: Terence McDonagh is a drug- and gambling-addled detective in post-Katrina New Orleans investigating the killing of five Senegalese immigrants. Violence, corruption, and shenanigans ensue.

Protests aren't about sending a message to the government. The government doesn't give a shit and will not listen. Protests are about sending a message to the people, about signaling what should be accepted and what should not. Protests are about spreading an idea, about leading by example, about signalling to others "hey, you're not alone in your discontent!"

I think the very word "protest" is wrong. They aren't protests. They're demonstrations.

The anti-ICE demonstrations will not convince an evil government to stop abducting people. But they do send the message to everyone else that we don't have to and in fact should not let ICE abduct our neighbors. The anti-genocide demonstrations were never going to stop genocidal western governments from helping Israel slaughter civilians, but they did help spread a message around the world that people need to do something to try to stop it.

I feel like I should have known this already.

Description: A collaboration between Soviet Soyuzmultfilm and Japanese Enoki Films, this movie features some adorable penguins as they grow up in the beautiful and harsh Antarctic and come up against the dangers of Man.

Content Warnings: We will be watching the sanitized English version because it is cuter, at the cost of cutting down on some of the blood and death. A discerning eye will still be able to read between the lines and notice:

  • Predation, death of animals offscreen

  • Disappearance of a main character with no explanation at all, which I will cover.

Other disturbing content:

  • Child abduction via poaching.
  • parents grieving the deaths of unborn children
  • 80's level of gender roles

Aiming for 5PM Central US Time

I just listened to a couple albums by Manilla Road because I learned that songs that I liked from other bands were covers of Manilla Road. (Melechesh, who are pretty based and you should check them out (they've got an album called "As Jerusalem Burns... al-intasar (to victory)" which got them run out of isn'treal) did a cover, and so did Visigoth). And what the goddamned fuck, this era of metal from the 80s is so goofy and the Manilla Road vocalist has such a weird voice, but it's good. It's good! It's catchy! The mixing and all aren't as crisp as I'd expect from music, but it's good anyway! It sounds kind of like modern power metal fused with doom metal but it's not either of them, it's just old-school heavy metal.

I don't know where I'm going. But here are some of the best songs which were all unexpectedly good.

No seriously I listened and started off thinking "wtf this guy's voice is whack and the song compositions are uhhhhhhhhh????" but then after a while I just got used to deciphering the beauty of it and it grew on me. Dragon Star: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrhW0o8lFRs Crystal Logic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJGDmGZjXxk Necropolis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF19h3TXQek

I'm trying to watch a video with comrades but low-key I just want to keep listening to Manilla Road.
