Reddit liberals are going to have a field day with this one

[–] EnsignRedshirt@hexbear.net 47 points 1 week ago

It's a great troll move, tbh. You do have to hand it to him here.

[–] FortifiedAttack@hexbear.net 69 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Putin has to be aware that his endorsement is pretty much perceived like the mark of the devil in the West, right?

Like, this has to be intentional trolling, right?

[–] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 67 points 1 week ago

No, I think Putin is just a neoliberal.

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 32 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There are some rightwing cranks that like Putin

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The vast majority of rightwingers love putin

It has been said that the best way to predict/understand Russian foreign policy in the 21st century is to ask yourself "what would the strongest troll move be that's not outright self-destructive".

This is stunningly stupid and makes me feel second-hand depression for the Russians who witnessed the fall of the USSR. Wtf. Liberalism has done on a number on Russia.

[–] sempersigh@hexbear.net 42 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (6 children)

I’m not going to name any names and I don’t wanna start drama but there’s a minority of posters in the news thread that will act all sarcastic and rude if you say anything anti russia (like for example if you imply Pravda ru or RT are bad sources) and basically imply that makes you pro Ukraine which i am most certainly not lol

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 2 points 6 days ago

(like for example if you imply Pravda ru or RT are bad sources)

I think it can depend on context. Like if you say they are potentially just as unreliable as western news media, then it's probably fine. But just saying "they're bad" in a vacuum sounds like a lib dismissing them because they are Russian, not because of any analysis of what they produce.

Or maybe some people are just weirdly pro-Russia around here, missing the "critical" part of "critical support"

[–] CrookedSerpent@hexbear.net 29 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ukraine is bad, which must then mean... Yes of course! Russia is good!!! friend-visitor-1

[–] sempersigh@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago (1 children)

See it’s easy! “Look mom I’m doing high level material analysis!”

[–] fox@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

Dialectics means there's a good side and a bad side

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 26 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The generous assumption is that they’re used to liberals online and irl saying anti-Russia things and turning out to be rabidly pro-Ukraine. But I don’t really see it. People call Putin cringe and frustrating all the time so I guess it really is a tiny minority or I’m just not online enough to pick up on it.

And yes RT and Pravda aren’t very reliable and are as trustworthy as the Daily Mail. I tend to just scroll past any posts that source them, especially if they claim to contain some big reveal that other sources haven’t mentioned.

Some people are map-painter brained and seem to think that multi-polarity is the end goal with the ends justifying the means.

Multi-polarity may be a more favorable condition than US dominance but no serious leftist supports throwing thousands of working class into a meat grinder just to tilt the balance of power between two capitalist blocs.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

yeah even if the ukraine proxy conflict plays a meaningful part in the destruction of amerikkka hegemony there are more direct and less bloody ways (unless the us makes them bloody like iraq or libya) to work towards that.

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

like for example if you imply Pravda ru or RT are bad sources

The real question is if that's better or worse than the random telegram links with no other source.

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago (10 children)

It's something that almost inspires me to hang out in more liberal spaces. In a way I wish hexbear was more welcoming to liberals, and re-educating them, instead of dunking on them immediately (some behavior is deserving of being immediately dunked, but not all), I find it very Twitter-brained (and that goes back to this site's roots on the old sub).

I encourage our comrades to challenge themselves and make an attempt to actually engage with liberals that aren't totally bad-faith. Let them justify the dunk before going in on them, and also don't paste a wall of links at them, it doesn't count.

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (6 children)

I don’t think we need to be welcoming to liberals. Debate doesn’t work to change anyone’s mind, and everywhere else on the internet is filled with “free speech” complainers who think their ignorant ideas have an equal right to be heard in a socialist forum.

The intolerant approach doesn’t work on everyone, but for some people I think it does. Some people have never been told, firmly, that their views suck. It’s just one big marketplace of ideas where all views are considered sacred.

Where I will agree is that we shouldn’t jump to a dunk on someone undeserving just to look/feel cool. Have to be able to read the room. I agree we should re-educate instead of only teasing. But that re-education doesn’t have to be respectful of liberal thought. It should be unequivocal about the righteous superiority of socialist thought, in exactly the same way as we might be unsympathetic toward more obviously wrong ideology like Nazism.

bit ideaThere's a bit to be made where the Russiagate stuff is taken at face value and treating Trump as America's Yeltsin. Putin the shock therapy lackey becomes the shock therapy puppet master.
