Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Monday he was not concerned “at present” about American shops potentially running out of items due to US President Donald Trump’stariffs.

Trump has introduced a 10 per cent baseline tariff against most nations, and a far higher levy totalling 145 per cent on goods coming from China.

The White House also introduced several sector-specific tariffs of 25 per cent, and has threatened to reimpose higher measures on dozens of trading partners if they do not reach a deal to lower trade barriers with the United States.

Asked during an interview with Fox and Friends if he was concerned about reports of empty shelves due to the tariffs, Bessent replied: “Not at present.”

“We have some great retailers,” he said during the Fox News interview. “I assume they pre-ordered.”

“I think we’ll see some elasticities. I think we’ll see replacements, and then we will see how quickly the Chinese want to de-escalate.”

Knowing nothing about him really, this singular line makes me think he's as stupid as his boss

Just in Time supply chain says what

I remember touring a car manufacturing plant a long time ago, and learning about Just in Time supply. I remember trying to work it out in my head and assuming that there would have to be no roadblocks. Now I see that it has crashed, again.

Toyota actually has buffers in their supply chain that makes them resilient to shocks, but most companies copied the name of the plan literally and as a result have extremely fragile supply chains.

curious-marx Wasn't one of the biggest Americanist complaints about the USSR that you had to pre order things like cars?

Love how the presumtion is that its up to China to be the adult in the room. God I hope China calls their bluff and just stops servicing the amerikan market.

I remember when I was in high school and my teachers constantly told us that, although China owns a lot of our debt, they'd never call it because they benefit from having a stable US for exports.

Joke's on them since it turns out, the US is so stupid, it's trying to make China call our debt by shitting all over itself and drinking its own pee while strutting around as though this is a valid economic policy.

I do near more clothes/gear for work. Probably should act on that sooner than later, I suppose.

[–] Tabitha@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

Let them pre-order cake.

I used to laugh at people saying all these ghouls were lizards people, but I firmly believe that this guy sheds his skin and sleeps under a heat lamp
